An observation about stock brake...

07 Elise, all stock. With the incredible feedback this car gives I find the brakes very effective and very controllable.... That is when they're dry. In moderate rain though, I feel a period (maybe 1/4 second) while they dry out and grip actually starts. First application is all but useless. I have never felt this in another car. Is this Elise road-to-driver communication or a quirk in the pads used by Lotus? Oh yeah, stock rotors are...

Tire shops safely able
Published (2009-11-28 12:21:00)
Different for every shop. The local dicounttire does a lot of work for the local Lotus dealership. When I went to them they were very careful with jacking the car and hand checking torque when putting the tires back on. I wouldn't take the car to any shop though, just this one that I know deals with a lot of lotus.

Take your own Rims and tires off and take them into the shop yourself. Hey why not ask for a Torque Wrench for Christmas it's not too late is it?? Then you are assured of the proper torque setting on the bolts. I never let anyone ELSE set the torque on the bolts.

Thanks for the info. I was under the impression that one could make crude adjustments in ride height with the sport pack suspension but I guess I was wrong. I like the idea of converting it over to a coil over set up like was shown above. I used that same part to do the same on a Lotus Seven and it worked perfectly. More to think about. Dave

Tire shops safely able

Where i've taken my car they hand torque without asking but they do need babysitting to use floor jacks in the right location and to do it one side at a time.... since i don't want them messing with removing panels to jack the whole car... there is simply no need. it's an easy job to do one side at a time. There are more ways to jack this car wrong it's silly... i watched them almost do it wrong twice... in my opinion if...

I just load the wheels up and take em in myself. It's not that much work and I usually do other maintenance while I've got the car up on stands. It's just too easy for someone not paying attention to screw something up.

It has a lighter construction to maintain the contact patch Lotus wanted. Many have switched to the cheaper non-LTS version and can't tell the difference.

Adj. end link update surprise
Today I installed a set of the Sector 111 V2 adjustable end links. I was surprised that there was 15lbs of preload on the stock links. That may not sound like a lot but its over .75% of the cars weight.
When you set up a car the goal is to have the cross weights within .5%. on my car that's 10 lbs. It also ...

Try running the Goodyears 3psi higher than stock, to compensate for a
slightly less stiff sidewall. That's what I am doing and I like the way the
car handles that way.

Pressure for wider-than-stock tyres?
07 Elise, stock wheels. Rear is 255/40ZR17 RA1, wider than stock 225mm. Front is 205/45ZR16 R1R, wider than stock 175mm. What does this do to rec tire pressures? In my mind it mean more area and because force = pressure times area, theoretically should mean a drop in the optimum tire pressure. Car is not ...
