Sabathia @ $140 million a gamble?
Published (2008-11-28 20:54:00)
Not only that, but winning the division is all that really matters, because 100 wins didn't do anything for the team in Oct.

2009 Lineup
Published (2008-11-29 05:09:00)
If Figgins, then Scioscia goes with this: 1 - Figgins (3B) 2 - Izturis (2B) - or Kendrick (if the Angels don't trade him) 3 - Teixeira (1B) 4 - Guerrero (RF) 5 - Hunter (CF) 6 - Dunn (LF/DH) 7 - Napoli (C/DH) 8 - Morales (DH/OF/1B) 9 - Wood (SS) Thus, we have 100 to 120 homers possibly batting 6-9, with the 1 & 2 slot bringing in about 10 homers COMBINED! I'd prefer Figgins OR Izturis, but Scioscia will want both. And, I...

That's the truth! Actually, winning the division isn't what got us into the World Series, either. :)

I think the Red Sox just traded Coco Crisp so Ellsbury could be their starting CF.

2009 Lineup

I know your "hacker" gripe with Kendrick. I think I have more patience with him than you do. He has a good chunk of mlb at bats under his belt, but I would like to see what he can do with a normal full season. I am still of the opinion that Kendrick can hit anywhere from .330 to .360 in the big leagues and rack up close to 50 doubles. Everything he has done in the minors and when he is healthy tells me that is a very real...

Also, I don't like Brown over Figgins. He is nowhere near Figgins' level defensively and his bat being an upgrade is questionable. Izturis shouldn't start imo and he shouldn't bat leadoff over Figgins.

OC Register editorial on GA
Published (2008-11-28 15:36:00)
It's rare to see an editorial directed toward sports but it just shows how much GA has meant to the franchise when the local newspaper weighs in on his pending departure on its editorial page: Likely good-bye to Garret 14-year Angels star files for free agency An Orange County Register editorial Garret Anderson, the longtime Angels outfielder and slugger, has filed for free agency. It's a poignant moment in Angels history. We know,...

Sabathia @ $140 million a gamble?
Published (2008-11-28 15:40:00)
IMO, again, IMO. I believe the Angels do not have the necessary components to fill the gaps. I really believe it will take at least 2, maybe 3, years to build this team solid all around. Thirdbase will be a lingering prob until we have a a 3Bman fall from the sky. Firstbase might be a prob but not as big as 3B...we can get a good 1Bman by trade. We will not win 100 games in 2009...90 would be tough. Sabathia would be so risky...the greatest...

are u out of your mind? we WILL win 100 games, especcially if we get 2 of the big 4 (Tex, Manny, Dunn, CC). the angels are going to blow their wad this offseason and sign some serious talent, and we WILL win 100 games

What do you think? No, don't give me other lineups. I want to see your critique on this lineup, and my conclusions. The more I see this lineup, the more I love it. I think it is just an AWESOME lineup (financially, transitionally, right/left balanced, and productive). 1 - Izturis (2B) 2 - Hunter (CF) 3 - Teixeira (1B) 4 - Guerrero (RF) 5 - Dunn (LF) 6 - Napoli (C) - Napoli doesn't hit ...

I think the Angels will sign a free agent on the 26th or the 28th of Nov. They seem to sign a big turkey the day before or after Thanksgiving! Happy Thanksgiving you bunch of Turkeys... Love Deuce :) Fire Hatcher!

While our FO is CONSUMED with trying to score one or more big Kahunas other clubs including our main post season threat Bsux are busily setting the bricks in place for their next solid wall. Securing Littleton from Texas (now this is surprising since Texas is constantly in need of decent pitching). Anyway it seems another steal for Epstein. Supposedly they get Littleton for cash and/or a ...

Giving that long and expensive contract to a pitcher is very risky..the experts say. That much money can tie a team up from making necessary moves if Sabathia should go down. These things happen. It is beginning to look like baseball is gone crazy. Why sign Sabathia when the position players do not provide offense? The Angels will need at least a couple of years to get it together. Some ...

All this talk about CC and Peavy is just crazy. The angels NEED to score runs and we cannot do that by trading for Peavy or blowing alot of $ on CC; yes they are both really good pitchers, but the angels offence would be terrible if we do not get Tex or Dunn. Tex should be our big offseason sign, and Dunn should be right behind him, and only AFTER that we look for a pitcher such as CC or Peavy....

...will the Angels go for it? Signing Tex to a 6-7 year NO-Trade would be a too locked-in, IMO. You just never know what a year or two can do to reshape a team...many reasons for NOT being committed for so long. Just read a piece on ..MLBTR and it goes over the sense of the Bosox in signing Tex. The Bosox have a great looking 1B prospect that everyone believes he will be a superstar......

Has anyone had trouble getting their post season refund to be refunded to you from the credit card company if you have a large credit balance? I have almost 12,000 credit on my mastercard with bank of america (due to the refund of angels post season games not played which was credited oct 23rd). I have called no less than 5 times and every time they tell me the check is in the mail. They ...

You cannot believe what I just heard On Rush's radio show. The price for box seats at the new stadium for the Yankees will be $ 2,000 per game. The Yankees are going to pay 155 million for a free agent for eight years. Heck no big deal. Maybe N.Y. should sign two or three more F.A. for 150 million. What percent of this cost the N.Y. payers. We will never know.

The March issue of Forbes listed Artes net worth at $1.2 billion, mostly in Viacom stock. The stock price on April 1st was $40.85. On Friday, the stock closed at $14.66. While its safe to assume that Arte wont be going broke anytime soon, I would be surprised if the Angels sign any big name free agents.

Out of Brandon Wood and Sean Rodriguez, who has the better chance to be a useful major league player and why? Who, although neither are rumored, is more likely to be traded this offseason?

I have been carefully reading the press coverage around Mark Teixeira, and I have read on more then one account (including one from a Boston sportswriter) who all say Tex had a great time playing for the Angels, and Mike Scoiscia. Boras himself even said Tex had a great time (at the GM meetings) and that is way out of character for him. I get the feeling the Angels will sign him at the winter...

We get to keep Napoli in the lineup and he would not be stressed at first as catcher. Maybe he would hit even better. No doubt Nap can handle first and the bad throws. Just a thought.

"Some GMs, including the Yankees' Brian Cashman, believe Japanese pitcher Junichi Tazawa should be considered off-limits by Major League Baseball clubs. According to a protocol agreement signed in 1998, professional Japanese baseball players are required to ...

That was awhile ago and STILL we don't have a real 3Bman. When Stoneman let McPherson go he never pursued a 3Bman either a bona fide prospect or a major leaguer. There is no excuse for this kind of numbness. How could he not see we had a void at that time? Scioscia had to "experiment" with Figgins and while the experiment was going on STILL the FO did not go after a real 3Bman. Can we ...

Reports on espn that the Angels are offering CC 6 years 140 plus million. If this is true and the Dodgers don't match I could see him being an Angel soon.
