Windows hates modems; why?

' Quote: My "AOpen" modems used to connect to my dial-up ISP at 115,200 when I used that string. You're joking, right, Shadow? That number is of course quite impossible for any analog modem, but is rather the displayed value when the Initialization string has the wrong setting for "DTE vs DCE". BOY does this ever take me back! Thanks anyway. Eric Schell

Windows hates modems; why?

I was in the repair shop I worked in, one day and the other tech was complaining about his modem running so slow, while he was trying to download something. I suggested that he go into the modem setup and add AT&F to the end of the modem initialization string. It effectively blows out the rest of the string and sets the modem to factory default. (if you try it and it doesn't work for you, it's easily removed without changing...

( Hello, There are a couple of approaches you can take to resolve this issue: Visit the modem manufacturer's web site and download all of the device drivers, application programs \( terminal emulation, fax transmission and so forth\) and the documentation, so you will have the latest instructions to follow and software to use the modem before you install it in the ...

I wanted to move XP to the 30 gb hard drive and install ME on the 17 gb. I used Drive Image XL to ...

( I posted elsewhere with this, but not too much help so far, and you guys sounded awful knowledgeable in another thread that landed me here, so here goes. Well, there's a first time for everything, so here goes. I generally don't ask for help on forums, I just pace around the room and swear and keep trying til I figure the issue out. Anyways, the issue... I built this PC ...

( Ok. I'm running an ASOS P48-MX MOBO motherboard with a Maxtor hard drive, over 100 gigs of space, probably closer to 120. It has Windows XP Pro on it, 1.99 GHz processor, and over a gig of RAM. With the Maxtor hard drive hooked up, I can't get past the "Windows did not start properly" screen. It won't even start from the XP CD. I called a local computer tech place, and all ...

( Hello all concerned, I have a Vantec SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter, which I have successfully used to inspect and modify other HDD's \(2.5" with WIn XP and Win 2000 sw\), and 3.5" HDD's with Win XP Home. However, I have a problem getting my OLDER 3.5" HDD's with Win 95 being recognized. For example, I have an Caviar 2850 drive \(yep, 850 MB\). My host system is Win XP ...

( I have a D-Link DI-704P router \(wired not wireless\) for my local network, and connection to broadband internet. No real problems. But I was wondering if there is a chance that it affects the actual upload/download speed on the net. \(It does have a built in firewall.\) Does anyone have any thoughts on that? Al , I have a D-Link DI-704P router \(wired not...
