Can I go from 8.10 back to 8.04?

I haven't had to, but 7.10 <-> 8.04 certainly worked o.k. in both directions. Had to do it a bunch of times. Make sure you have /home mounted on a separate partition first, then re-install using the same user(s)/passwords. Take note of my sigline.

For greater safety, use a live cd (like gparted or partition magic) for the purpose. Some file systems cannot be resized.

well, actually SAMBA is much more configurable than the standard setup in ubuntu. Thanks, However, aAs I indicated in my original post, I did a complete, fresh install (not on VMWare) and experienced the same issue with Totem as I have seen in the VM and on the upgraded install. All are running on the same PC (interchangeable hard drives - no multi-booting).

I think it is you can login into a gnome graphic desktop but only can't use mouse or keyboard. is there a way to get MS virtual machine to run on ubuntu? if so how do i go about getting it to work. i have the trial edition of VMware but its going to expire soon, i still need the use of XP and i know MS virtual machine might not be as great as VMware but it will help. thanks

After upgrading from 8.04 to 8.10, I am having a number of problems with Kontact. The path of least resistance seems to be to return to 8.04 and wait for the next LTS. Is that possible?

Hi, I have just loaded Ubuntu 8.10 on my laptop and failed to read the instructions for the Evolution e-mail and now I can send but can't receive mail and I can't find a way to set my "password". I have since loaded Ubuntu 8.10 on my desktop and was able to enter my password on the FIRST e-mail sent me. What do I do on my laptop?? Thanks for any help

hi, in 8.10, ff sometimes doesnt open the webpages and im waiting about 5min or when it goes to 404 error and than press F5 and it's going normal. during this problem opera can open all webpages normally. i had this problem in debian etch too but 8.04 no problem. how can i fix it?

Here is an interesting issue. I have dual boot machine (XP/Ubuntu 8.10). When I boot into XP I can connect to my RedHat 9.0 box and access my shares with no problem. However, when I boot ubuntu and connect to my share on the red hat box, it will mount the folder but will not display any pre-existing shares. However, I was able to create a share and verify that it went into the correct folder....

I recently installed Ubuntu 8.10 on a friend's desktop PC (trying to get him 'converted'). The funny thing is, shutdown doesn't work. I've heard of this issue being present on some laptops where you need to add Code: nolapic in menu.lst, but what could cause the error on a desktop? Hi all, whenever an user who is not in /etc/sudoers file issues the sudo command we will get the following message " .... is not in the sudoers file. Totem worked fine in 7.10 with various media types. I upgraded to 8.04 and it still worked fine. After upgrading to 8.10 the player will start and play a .avi file just fine. However, if I change the size of the Totem window the sound continues but the video area turns black and stays that way. It appears that the window does not properly resize - I see fragments of the window cascaded on top...

I'm running 7.10 and want to upgrade to 8.04 (and eventually 8.10) Following directions, I'm trying to make sure that 7.10 is updated before I start. I go into the Systems menu, choose Administration and then Update Manager and then click the Check button.
