If you can make it louder by hard cornering, I would venture a guess that the wheel hub is a gonner. Good luck

That makes sense... At least the last Continentals were rear air-springs only (read: simple to deal with)

You'll need to find out what code is generated by the transmission light. I reckon the tranny you got was a dud...do you trust the guy who sold it?

Good luck on the front......I paid about 450 each for mine and that's because the dealer sold them to me at nearly his cost. Mine are the electronic ones. I have seen many in the junk yard the same year as mine (1999) that are not eletronic. I am confused about this because they appear to be motor craft OEM shocks. The dash controls on these cars also had the Vehicle handling button on them but no electronic shocks. Any feedback on this?????

2001 air suspension problem
Published (2009-12-20 17:20:00)
air compressor runs intermittently & often, except when on the open road. sometimes will come on every 5 min, sometims not. sometimes runs a fairly long time, sometimes not. always vents from valve on top of compressor before running. can find no leaks but have not pulled tires. any suggestions?

Buzzing noise passenger front...

This noise has me stumped. First I thought it was the inner fender--inner fender was bent a little and looks like it might have been rubbing on the tire. Fixed that--noise still there. When I had the wheel off it looked like there was just a little moisture rust on the rotor. Pulled the brakes and I could not get the caliper back in with a c-clamp figured it must need a new caliper. Changed that with new brakes on the front both sides--noise...

I am wondering if it is the outboard CV joint? when you turn the wheel dose the sound get louder one direction over the other?

More than likely you have one or more springs leaking. They form cracks and leak when sitting in a certain spot. Eventually your compressor will burn out. I suggest turning off the air suspension and letting it sit over night. Where ever it sinks, theres your leak.

Hmm...Well the bad ride is from original shocks, you gotta replace those. Did you jack up the car, remove the wheels and look at the base of the rubber where it meets the mount for cracks? That's important. I had this problem in my Mark VIII, the rear bags were on their way out. Small cracks at the base, replaced proactively and the problem went away.

Not 100% sure, but I think the bottom of the grille is held to the bumper with plastic rivets. Gotta remove the bumper (not that hard) and drill them out.

Read the sticky I wrote about strange electrical problem at the top of this forum. If you have another battery, TRY IT. You might be surprised. They have been known to sulphate and go bad to the point where they will crank fine, but take a nosedive during the very short full load at compression in each cylinder just enough to prevent the system from firing the plug. I would never have ...

I think it'll be just as sought after as the Chevrolet Celebrity. I really can't see it being something sought after. Honestly, if I owned a Continental, I'd have 2K set aside for the transmission (they will fail, they are infamous for it) - but all transmissions fail eventually. Then have any extra set aside for whatever. Bottom line is, it's your car. If you're comfortable spending 5-10K on...

New coils are a waste unless the car is really driving like it's running on less than 8 cylinders. I put in MSD coils to fix what I thought was a misfire (it was a vibration from a bad motor mount!) and they worked just as well as the 140,000 mile original coils. Don't do it.
