according to the manual, its either mixed up bios data or incompatible PCI devices. solution: clear your cmos settings and check that your gfx/PCI cards properly seated.

i found out what's the problem - the CPU fan. the beeping was for fan failure, and the fan seems a bit haywired; time to change it. any recommendations?

There is no adapter. No point. You just stick the 1.8" directly into the laptop. Use some double sided tape to hold it. What 1.8" hdd are you using btw? I just bought a kingspec 1.8" PATA SSD recently (64gb) for my X41 tablet that uses 1.8" hdd.

Your windows is corrupted. Press F8 to go into safe mode (Before logo comes out and see if you can back up any data). You might need to reinstall windows.

Tried reseating everything? Also maybe try 1 stick of RAM at a time instead of reseating both sticks at once? Sorry if you tried all these already, just shooting in the dark here.

Best is install the latest driver from the website first, all to default setting. Might be your LCD need RMA soon. Try on another LCD. Better be prepared, if suddenly busted, either GPU or LCD, very headache if no computer.

what sort of beeping? if you have high end hardware might want to consider investing in a case with better cooling... preserve your hardware lifespan over the long term for a small investment...
