On Ramp Merge Rear-End Collision
Published (2009-11-10 11:24:00)
I'm 2/3 the way across the country so no, I am not familiar with California in any specific nature. So, what happened with this: Quote: At the scene the driver that struck me said he didn't want to involve insurance and that he would pay for the damages out of pocket(admitting fault). call the guy up and ask him to send a check for the damages.

Insurance Companys Reporting to DMV
Published (2009-11-06 19:26:00)
Yes, that's possible. Contact the DMV to see if there's a way to declare that your vehicles aren't being operated on the roads, to avoid the mandate to carry insurance. Your insurance agent may also be able to advise you of your legal options, or cheap insurance you might obtain during the months the vehicles are parked.

On Ramp Merge Rear-End Collision
Published (2009-11-10 11:11:00)
There was no on-ramp beside me when it happened. Traffic at this time was stop and go(35mph or less), so my distance from the on-ramp was a mere 100 to 200 yards. I don't know how familiar you are with Bay area traffic at around 9am, but this is about when it happened. My guess as to why the guy hit me is he was looking over his shoulder to try and go around me... this is just an assumption. I guess my mistake was mentioning the on ramp...

Damage to Cargo

Realistically, the main issue was the jolt caused the cargo in the cargo net to shift, letting the cargo move freely in the trunk.

Quoting pyrowipe The other drivers Insurance adjuster was supposed to come and inspect the damage. After 2 weeks of waiting with no car and no adjuster, my insurance company called and said I was 81% at fault. I asked how they could know this without anyone coming to see the damages... the answer was, "because you were struck on left half of the bumper." (driver's side) They went on to say that because I was struck on...

thanks for the response jg. so generally speaking, the type of violation doesn't matter too much? I keep thinking a 5-over ticket is something they'd be hard-pressed to raise rates for, but this IS insurance we're talking about, and they DO love pinching money from us any way we can.

Probably won't be that big of a deal. Might take a look around and compare rates. Maybe look for a company that can offer you discounts for having a home or renters policy. Good luck!

Uninsured Driver Hit an...
Published (2009-11-03 11:08:00)
My question involves insurance law for the state of: California An uninsured driver was backing down an alley and hit an illegally, unoccupied car. That driver was uninsured at the time. The owner of the parked car had full coverage and his/her insurance company is trying to make the uninsured driver pay in full for the repairs. The areas of concern are: 1. They did not contact the uninsured driver other than to get personal information....

Damage to Cargo
Published (2009-11-04 13:39:00)
Quote: The damage to my vehicle caused the cargo net in my trunk to become unfastened, releasing several heavy items to careen around the trunk during the impact. I was not thinking clearly enough, worried about opening the trunk (since it may not be able to be closed again), and was having to fly out in a few hours to have the police officer examine the damages to the contents of the trunk. So the accident report indicates less than $400....

Insurance Companys Reporting to DMV
Published (2009-11-04 22:33:00)
Oklahoma, I have read in other post about some states reporting dropped insurance to the DMV and getting their drivers license revoked. This made me think, I have three motorcycles and three vehicles. In March of this years I had a bad fall and broke my left arm in four places and shadered my wrist. I was unable to ride the bikes this year and they have set in my garage. I let the insurance lapse on them since I won't be riding untill...

It wouldn't be a big deal to call your agent and ask. You likely have a 6-month or an annual policy and your rates won't change until renewal regardless of what your agent knows.
A good rule of thumb for a single violation is about 10% increase.Varies upon companies and what discounts are being applied but that should be close.

If you believe the other driver was at fault, you have the option of suing him. It is apparent your insurance company does not agree with you. You should take that as a big warning of how a court will see your case.
btw; if you were "in the lane for a few moments" how would the damage only be on your left side of the bumper. The damage would indicate you had not fully entered the lane. It ...

So, basically, you purchased insurance on the 16th of a month, effective on the 17th, and you suffered hail damage on the very first day your policy was in effect? Did you have a lapse in your coverage before buying this online policy? Your prior policy was canceled as of what date? It would have covered what portion of the damage had it remained in effect?
You've been paid how much under the ...

1. Ask them. Perhaps they don't believe they can adequately fix the car for the budgeted amount, and would rather not do the repair than have it come out badly.
2. Your insurance contract will provide for what you are to do in the event of a dispute, probably arbitration. But if the repair facility agrees to do the repair for an amount that isn't sufficient to deem the car totaled, then the ...
