I bought my Cezanne for $900, with another $900 or so in costs to go pick it up, and another $100 for a G4 with maxed out ram to run it. Like Bob, I've made about 100 scans with it, mostly bw negatives, and the quality is excellent. So that means so far I've spent $20 per scan plus the time taken to scan the film. If something were to go wrong with the scanner, though, costs would escalate quickly. Buying a scanner like this is a...

Sandy, Maybe a switch to "8 bit" RGB would solve the issue of size <G>. Actually I've been following the other thread with some interest. There are some situations where it just might prove useful if correct. bob

I thought there was some difficulty wet mounting 8x10" film on the v700 series, the wet mounting station isn't big enough to fit it, I know that much:

Has anyone out there been able to compare samples of the Epson scanners? I'm wondering how much sample variation there is within a particular model.

I follow the recommended setting by Bruce Fraser in the book "Real World Image sharpening with Photoshop CS2" to print with a 3800.
For a 360 DPI file, amount 360, radius 0.6, threshold 4
The method described in the book uses a sharpening layer overlayed to the image and using a high pass filter.

Epson holders could be easily modified to make height adjustable. It will
cost you fraction of price that betterscanning.com charges for a piece of

quite questionable. I am using V750 with Epson holders for several years

Re: scanning 8x10 chromes, V700 or Cezanne?
Hi Pfeiffer,
The big question is can you find a Cezanne local enough to you in good shape and for a decent price and with all the accessories that you want such that it's worth taking a risk on one? If you can, by all means, go for it. We have a number of experienced users here that can help ...

35" x 45" is hardly stretching a scan of an 8x10. I would not expect to see that much difference until I got to around the 80" x 100" mark.

Scott, did you buy a new Elite scanner? If so, what are they selling for now ? Did you buy direct, or a dealer?
When you say it will scan in half the time, I think you are referring to the Elite vs. the Original Cezzanne (non Elite). right? I don't think software was ever the bottleneck...

Most people use a live capture back like a Phaseone.
Putting digital live capture backs on a Linhof Technika from the IV to the Master and the 2000 and 3000 is very easy. You can use the 001693 Linhof DigiAdapter to put any Hasselblad V compatible digital back on the camera. Or you can use the new Linhof ...
