26 more days until I'm banded!! I'm really excited!! The only queasiness I feel is about asking for time off of work. I'm afraid to talk to the store manager and ask for a week to two weeks off. It's hard to explain, but I feel guilty about taking time off. Like Cheryl stated earlier, this is about me, right?

And the Journey Begins

Welcome charole', I just had my band done on the 25th and I had 2 weeks of opti-fast before surgery. I mixed it with decaf coffee and splends mocha flavor packs (0 calories) and it made a large drink. I would be pretty full, I had to drink 5 a day and it got old, but I lost 12 lbs in 2 weeks doing them. I had a couple of times I had a piece of cheese or yogurt and still lost the weight. Good luck and you can do it, it's the worse...

Ant, I took 3 weeks off from work. I was allowed 6 weeks from my surgeon but I felt really good after about 2 weeks. One thing I never advise anyone on is rushing this. This is a life changing procedure, and you have the rest of your life to get this right. Take your time and let things happen the right way. Take as much time off from work as you can. Let your body rest and get adjusted. The post op diet is much harder when you are on the go...

All that depends on your insurance. Mine is Blue Shield and I had to do many tests and 6 months supervised dietician appointments. It actually took me over a year from the time I inquired with my PCP to my surgery date. Do not let that discourage you though. The dietician courses have proven extremely helpful. You need more than just the lap-band® to make this work. You need ...

My husband continues to question my decision but I am going through with this either way (Dec. 22nd). He thinks I'll freak out by the "new" way I have to eat and want them to take it out! My insurance is paying the whole bill too but he just doesn't want this for me. Too bad! I'm doing it. Of course, he will take me to the hospital and hold my hand but he's fighting me the to the end!! Best ...

Good Luck! I noticed your Doc is Dr. Monk. Are you from York? I used to live there and knew several people that went to him. I'm in Minnesota now and was banded here! It's a long road to get your surgery but well worth it!

I know exactly how you feel - hang in there - you are not alone!
I live in Ontario Canada and last evening I had my first consult with the surgeon. Dr Cobourn is a wonderful man and inspires huge trust and confidence.
I need to know this - did anybody here burst into tears when they met their surgeon? I cannot explain what happened to me - I could not stop the flow of tears - I was not ...

Barb, glad to hear you're doing well! You may experience some pain around the port because they attach the port to muscle. As for the gas, move around as much as you feel like you can. Take short walks, wave your arms over your hear sometimes. If the gas pain seems to settle in your shoulder, a heating pad on your shoulder can work wonders too!
