I just have to chime on on this muscle gain thing. You just dont gain 10lb of muscle from what is a couple of weeks of pretty mild exercise - and only cardio at that. By the way, its a FANTASTIC effort to get started in this way, its goign to have great fat loss benefits and its what you need to be doing. But to gain 10lb in a short period of time, you'd have to be doing some pretty heavy duty lifting and as a woman, you probably STILL...

Want to Start Running.. what...

I started running at 350. I can go pretty good on the treadmill for a half mile at a time but the streets are killing my knees and shins. So, I am going to keep my running to the padded treadmill for now. The worst part is all of the extra fat bouncing around my gut. It can be painful at times. I have to get some kind of corset.

Paige, Yes, I'm very happy with my BodyBugg ("BB") and would recommend it or a similar tool to folks trying to lose weight. I kept my eye on the BB website and bought it on sale this summer - I believe it was in July. I saved over $100 with the sale, and I bought both the BB and the digital display. Since I purchased the BB and started the Couch-2-5K program, I'm losing weight again. I didin't realize that I...

My December goals are 100 miles walking total, mostly aerobic/cardio in the morning, the rest through the day.
I also want to start lifting weight (other than my own) and doing some bike riding, both outside and stationary.

It sounds like you are doing great. I would only suggest that you get your surgeon's authorization to move on. I was banded on 10/30. I am not allowed to do sit ups, or anything related to belly exercises. I want to get to the stage you are. Being 36 years older than you, might be the difference. Good luck. Kll724

I'm in! I'm 7 weeks out from surgery, and I've been lazy. So, I pulled out the WII fit this morning and started running on my mini trampoline. I'm shooting for 30 miles this month.

Claudine~ Go for it! I started the C25K this past winter and loved it. Don't worry that people are looking at you - they aren't! If they are running, they are thinking about their run and if they are your neighbors to heck with them! I just run on by and don't worry about it.
Heck, you have to be lookin' great if you are down to 195! Turn on your podcast and get started, you will be so glad ...

I'm taking swimming lessons and also do the water aerobics class twice a week. Every Dr is different - with this said, my Dr didn't release me for exercise, sex, lifting over 15lbs... until I was 4 wks post op. So, I didn't start any real exercising until I was released @ 4wks.
I did lots and lots of walking right after surgery, which the Dr insisted on. I'd suggest speaking with the surgeon ...

Wow that is crazy! 10 lbs wow. Have your measured yourself? What is your daily calorie count? Are you getting enough calories in for the amount of working out that you are doing?

Heidi...I guess if I would try to stick to about 800 cals a day and once a week have a day where the calories were bumped to about 1100-1200. Try to eat at least 3-4grams of hard lean protein first and then whatever veggie you can fit in at that meal. Try not to snack...and if you feel the need, keep veggies on hand to grab. I used to grab a small amount of soynuts to curb hunger...

Want to Start Running.. what weight did you start? permalink
I am just now toying with the idea of starting to run.. I like the idea of the couch to 5k. I had my surgery in September and am down almost 50 pounds at this point. I currently weight 240.. I'm curious as to what weight others were when they started running.

Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred permalink
I am on Day 5 of Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred. It's only a 20 minute workout, but it kicks a$$! Even after only 5 days I feel stronger. I am alternating right now between Level 1 and Level 2 just to vary it up.
Anyone else doing this program? Anyone who has made it through 30 Days who can report their results?...

Check out the Gowear Fit, made by the same people with a lower price tag. Yes, it has helped me A LOT, especially as I got towards the end of my goal.

I bought a pair of MBT due to a friend raving about them but ended up returning them. They run REALLY small. I wear an 10 1/2 - 11 and their 11 was WAY too small for me. I am curious about the ShapeUps and the Reebok though and how they fit. If you have a Walking Company near you, they carry MBT or Good Feet or some Nordstrom stores (if they are in your area).
Best of luck!!
