You have all been amazingly helpful. I'll keep in mind that cold water is a problem to some and try to drink before and during my workouts (that's always been a challenge). The water backpack sounds pretty cool too. Thanks for the encouragement ladies!

Anyone else signed up for a Turkey trot? We will be in Erie, PA visiting family so I signed up for a 10k on Thanksgiving morning, I'll be running with my nephew before he ships off to Afghanistan while his fiance, and my wife run the 5k. I'll be at -1000 calories before sitting down for dinner.

I joined a local ATA (karate) school about a month ago - it is GREAT - they have 45 minute work-outs several times a week - and then a FITNESS class on Saturday mornings....they push you hard - but understand that everyone has limits. Do a Google search for ATA + your town and see what comes up.... I have lost 1 dress size in a month -- hoping to lose another size by Christmas...........

How to burn more calories at the...
Published (2009-11-12 15:05:00)
If you're going to stay with cardio machines, interval training will burn more calories for you - well more correctly, it will set your body up to burn more FAT. Calorie burn might only increase slightly due to doing a slightly greater distance, but your metabolism will skyrocket. that means, if you can only run for a few minutes on the treadmill, then spread your run out - walk very fast for five minutes, run flat out for two, recover...

Hi! Different machines produce different results. I know for one, the elliptical will burn 800 calories in one hour for me. Keep in mind too it does depend on how heavy you are, wether you are male or female etc. All the best!

If the weight is not heavy enough I don't think it'll do much for building muscle. I pick ones that are slightly heavier than the ones that I think of as easy, and then I do repetitions until I feel the burning. Usually twenty. If my arm feels like it's going to fall off (lol not literally, just that nice warm limp feeling) I know I did enough... for that set. And then I switch arms or ...

Claudine~ Go for it! I started the C25K this past winter and loved it. Don't worry that people are looking at you - they aren't! If they are running, they are thinking about their run and if they are your neighbors to heck with them! I just run on by and don't worry about it.
Heck, you have to be lookin' great if you are down to 195! Turn on your podcast and get started, you will be so glad ...

I'm in! I'm 7 weeks out from surgery, and I've been lazy. So, I pulled out the WII fit this morning and started running on my mini trampoline. I'm shooting for 30 miles this month.

OK, no one responded, but let me tell you! I got the rollerblades and loaded my two toddlers in a double stroller and it is one heck of a workout. Thirty minutes and my face was beat red, heart rate was 162, and I was sweating like a pig. Not to mention it's fun and the kids loved it!
