Which year and model? If it is the all-air system, then it's a bit complex to give a quick explanation, but I'll wait for model details so I can check the manual first. Peter

Ok if they are unrelated that gives me some scope of where to look. First I need to check for power at the switch as it simply does nothing at th moment, no lights, no messages.

would say it was a bad earth, I had the same fault on another car when I plugged a trailer in - turned out to be faulty wiring (brake wire had worn through and was touching the chassis) on the trailer. Did exactly the same though you pressed the brake and the dash lights dimmed right down.

The cruise and the air sus do sort of have a connection as the cruise is managed by the engine management system which has inputs for speed and the air sus adjusts itself at set speeds. You need to look in RAVE to find whats connected to what.

Can you try another engine ecu,the 3.5 flapper type ecus seem to die of old age and poor idling or hunting above idle are classic signs of this.If you can borrow another ecu just plug it in and try it.I dont see many of these now,but a few years back this was quite common - enough for me to get hold of a test ecu to keep on the shelf.Do check out the dist though, again timing scatter is a big enemy of a Rover v8 trying to idle.

They work no differently to a 4 or 5 or 6-cylinder engine, or a 12-cylinder come to that. If you took half a V8, you'd have a four-cylinder engine. Everything is the same and does the same function, the main differences are the arrangement of the inlet manifold between the banks, and how the other bits are fitted around the engine. Apart from the fact that you now have 8 of everything ...

The question of the cars reliability should almost be second to how good your local dealer/independant is.Not sure about the Eastern states, but in WA many of my friends have nothing good at all to say about the dealers. An L322 is a complex beast and even if you dont have any nasty issues with it,at the age you state there are going to be some hefty bills to deal with....

There are two issues with Nickel-Cadmium batteries. 1) They self-discharge at a higher rate than Lead-Acid. 2) Their nominal cell voltage is 1.2V per cell against 2.0V per cell for lead-acid. As long as you have 10 cells and they are vented types, then a conventional car trickle charger will be OK, just take it off if you are going to leave it unattended for longer than 2-3 days. The...

hi simon, yes the swivels do need to be reset to align the oil seal properly if you remove the whole swivel. but if you remove the disc etc, the hub assembly is held into the swivel by 4 bolts, if you release these the hub will ( should!, they can rust in ) come away with the cv joint, if you want to take the cv joint out of the hub just crack the main hub nut before you start as it's easier with...

in short they are not all the same, while the 4.6 and 4.0 are almost the same in around 2000 they fitted a differnt ECU and top end, Later inlet manafolds look like a bunch of bannaners not the large inlet seen on the eariler ones Some sensor locations where changed in the bottom end as well, Aidan

Raise Suspension without Engine Running?? When collecting the RR P38 I could do with raising the suspension to make it easier to get it on the trailer. Currently one of the heads is off, so obviously it can't be started. The seller has told me that it won't raise as we can't start it. Just wondered if there was any way round it? I'd ...

It would have to be cheap as the engine is most likely toast. V8's don't like being overheated especially the 4.6. Its not the heads you want to worry about its the slipped liners that are a common after effect of over heating. It should be a 4.6 in it as its a HSE. The 4.6 returns 15-20mpg I guess, a little less on gas but its made up for in the cost per litre. The motor does warm up ...
