I am the director of production for a small company in Cincinnati, Ohio. I recently went to our
home office to pick up the paychecks for my staff. Upon arrival I was told that my compensation was decreased by $1000 a month. My paycheck that was issued, was for the new amount. Can an employer decrease pay without notification on wages already earned without prior notification? We are on a bi-...

I resently gave notice and quit my job to take a new position with another company. I was paid salary, commission and a monthly bonus. The pay cycle ended on the 9 and 26 and we received our checks on the 15 and 30 of each month. When I received my last salary check it was
prorated and short $800.00 dollars although I worked until the 10th of the month and when I asked about it I was told ...

I have a question about paying
piece rate. I know someone that works for a smaller company, his work involves installation of mechanical equipment. On some jobs he is paid hourly and other jobs he is paid piece rate. He is considered a regular full time employee, not a contractor. When he works hourly they forbid overtime. When he works on piece rate they make it impossible to not work ...

What is the law in ohio? Our paychecks are always dated for Thursday. Our companies policy is to not hand them out until Friday. Is it legal for the company to hold on to these checks until the end of Friday's
work day if they are dated for Thursday?

time" in between calls he wants us to dock a lunch. To my understanding, they must be told, you are to take no calls and you are on lunch for us to deducted this ...

I just want to be sure I am understanding how Ohio works in regards to lunches and breaks. If I am reading and understanding correctly, by law, Ohio DOES NOT have any laws requiring that employers give their employees a
lunch break or any kind of break for that matter, after any certain number of hours worked, period, correct?

I have worked for a small company for 2 years now. In the beginning, I was told that instead of time & 1/2 pay for overtime, I would receive a 2nd
pay check at the regular rate for "other time" for hours I worked over the traditional 40 hour work week. I only earn this pay about 3 weeks out of the month, an average of 1/2 hour to 5-6 hours of "other time" per pay. Is this legal? Am I being ...

I've worked for the same company for five years. I get paid as a '
salaried' employee bi-monthly. I am not considered an to be an exempt employee. It is an Customer Relations Manager/Administrative professional position which requires me to train and oversee other employees. I have no authority to hire or fire or discipline anyone. According to the company, it's purely a 'title'. Until ...

This is an oversimplification, but for purposes of your question basically there are two types of law: - Labor law is law the government imposes on employers. The main
federal labor law is called FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act). This is the law that defines things like Exempt and Overtime. Under that law there are some restrictions on docking salaried exempt employees. For the sort of thing ...
