It's great that you've built some flexibility into your plan. Weaning deadlines cause so much stress and heartache! It's not selfish at all to need to hang up the pump when you have a demanding job and not enough support. I hope things go well!

well, good, at least it sounds like we're trying all the tested and true methods, so hopefully we'll get through this and he'll stop doing it once he's done cutting this 2nd tooth! this morning has been a little better so far, but then, he's usually in a really good mood in the morning. i've been lansinoh nipple-creaming like crazy, but i'll try the breastmilk! thanks!

It's just a normal cycle I think. Babies nurse a lot and sleep less at various times. It could be his way of reconnecting with you if you are busy running around for the holidays. You also said he has had a cough. If his throa is scratchy or he doesn't feel well, he probably just wants to nurse more for that reason. Just go with the flow, mama.

My dd HATED to be swaddled, too, but for some reason one night I did it and she actually slept a good stretch (4hrs). I also made sure: she wasn't too warm/cold, reflux wasn't waking her, put a baby blanket (so she's not sleeping on a hard surface in her playyard) to make it warmer when I lay her down, walking around in a quiet and dimly light room after her bath (before sitting to bfing)and tried putting one of my shirts (worn...

Have you offered liquids with a straw? Sometimes the novelty will get them interested. Also, have you checked your milk for lipase issues? They can crop up any time. Have you tasted the milk you are offering? It's likely a phase...I would suggest just going with the flow. Weaning ideally is a very gradual process and it seems to go better if you can take some cues from baby. If you can be a little more flexible about your weaning timeline...

Baby needs to gain weight
Published (2009-12-26 10:36:00)
I think I win the prize for smallest baby on the board, LOL, if I can even put it that way. My 7.5-month-old girl was just shy of 13 lbs at 7 months 5 days. She started out in the 10th percentile and dropped every visit until this past visit she officially fell off. She's the average size of a 3-month-old breastfed baby according to the charts on Kellymom. And our ped didn't even notice it until I pointed it out to him, and...

Breast shield for forceful let...
Published (2009-12-20 14:36:00)
I recently talked to an LC about forceful let-down and oversupply, and she recommended trying a nipple shield. I expressed the same concern about nipple confusion, etc., but she had a good point--the alternative is me giving up on breastfeeding altogether because I'm having so much pain (my baby clamps down on the nipple at every feeding to slow the flow). So if your baby's health is at stake (insufficient weight gain) but she will...

Please help me with my nipple pain.

Thanks for that. Lansinoh was a life saver when the nipples were cracked but that's not a problem now. It's just the pain. I've been trying the sandwich breast attachment thing all day but it's not working. Why can't I do this after 3 kids? I feel like giving up is the only option.

how much breast milk at six months

DS1 took the same amount past 6 months. He was taking in some solids, but it didn't seem to affect how much milk he took during the day.

I don't know about the SNS, but don't go fishing for weight issues yet. Six
months is a normal time for weight gain to slow and 1% drop is not enough
IMO to jusitfy weight checks. I know it's hard not to worry - two of my
girls completely fell off the growth chart. They are petite girls though -
we have little people in the family.

It's completely possible that your baby has started teething, even at this tender age. ...

I don't think he would purposefully dehydrate himself. Are the foods he's eating liquidy? Have you notice a decrease in his diaper output or strong smelling urine?

How many pee diapers does he have a day?
Honestly, it sounds great to me! And he sounds like a sleeping champ. Good for you

What chart is he looking at? The CDC chart is based on formula fed babies and BF babies tend to "fall off" of it at around 6 months. DS1 did that and the ped expressed concerned but I just ignored him. He feel from 50th to 25th or so, and then stayed there until he had his 2 year appointment. The next doctor we saw wasn't concerned at all. Check out these charts from the WHO. It is a more ...

my 4 month did this around 3 months as well. it lasted a week and i couldnt
figure out why. she has started to do it again every so often and i burp
her after a few minutes of feeding or give her gas drops. this seems to
help. try swaddling him for naps. it puts my little one to sleep quick.

for my 1st i paid all the $$ for prescription ones when preg and then switched to over-the-counter ("nature made" brand) while breastfeeding...and my 2nd my dr said no worries just stick with the over-the-counter .. they are just as good! so i went to costco and got a big bottle and I have been using them ever since!

Sounds like she's teething. I've always said, "ouch" mostly because it does hurt, but it gets them to stop for a bit so I can offer something else for them to chew on. Lu, at now 9mos does not chew on my nipple...my fingers are another story.
You can offer a cold washcloth or teething ring.

I've only ever used the boppy in the early days and then just pillows afterwards. As far as chair, any good glider will do. You can prop pillows under your arm and carry on. I never invested in one since we nurse just about anywhere in the house, but if you think you will use it, it can't hurt.

Read this . Co-sleeping is definitely easier. We had spells where it got better and worse. I'd have never made it if she was in another room. Not what you want to hear, but it finally started getting better once she wasn't teething anymore a few months after her 2nd birthday. Hang in there. This too shall pass...

Was your baby treated for thrush as well, or just you? You both would need to be treated or you would reinfect eachother.

now it's back?

Have you tried taking an iron supplement? A friend of mine wasn't anemic, but she was borderline and was getting mastitis all the time. She started taking an iron supplement and didn't get mastitis anymore.

I think it is pretty balanced. What I think is weird about it, is that it really has never occurred to me that people feel guilty about formula feeding. Perhaps the women who truly gave it their all and wanted to do it feel guilty. I can't imagine why someone who chose to formula feed straight off would feel bad. Maybe it's a perception thing, but I hear more flak about people nursing after a...

My baby girl is just over two weeks and I have to pump my milk out for her. I have to do that every two hours. Gosh, it will be so hard for when she goes through her growth spurs.
Good luck with your baby boy. Hopefully his demands will be less for you soon.

I've not heard that one! I wouldn't drink any alcohol with a very young baby though, since their liver cannot metabolize it at all.
I can't think of anything in red wine that would help with gassiness/fussiness besides the sedating effect of alcohol!

If she has been growing well on breastmilk alone so far, probably not. But you could try adding some nursing sessions or giving her a bit more expressed milk (remember, breastmilk has more calories than cereal) and seeing if that changes things.
