i smoked quite a few 350's with duoble hump heads with my 305. i had a vortec 350. so i took the heads off and put them on the stock 305. and ran the piss out of it. while i built the 350. believe it or not i miss that 305.

454 TBI Vortec conversion
Published (2009-07-03 12:43:00)
Instead of rebuilding the factory 454 TBI heads i think it would be better to swap out to a set of used Vortec heads. I know that GM performace makes a intake to mount up to the 305 and 350 but i could not find one for the BBC. So unless there is one i cant find i think i am stuck with using a TBI to Carb spacer. My question with the vortec heads on a 90 TBI 454 BB what would be the best intake manifold to run for torque and low-mid range...

those 487s will never begin to approach the AFRs. Spend the $270 for a set of retrofit hydraulic roller lifters, and install COMP's Thumpr retrofit hydraulic roller cam. The smallest of the 3 choices. That, with the AFR heads, has pleased more than one of my customers beyond words.

I just bought a set of sportsman II heads, since the stud was pulling out of my camel humps. The engine is a 350 either bored .030 or .060 i cant remember which one. I want to achieve around 11:1 compression. My question is do you use the gasket bore exactly the same as the engine bore? and also do stock size pushrods work or do i need longer ones with these heads?

This is in a 1990 1 ton work truck that has been one of the best running trucks i have ever owned. The truck has all most no rust and even the AC works with over 266,000 miles one her. Now for the issue she started burning oil in the number 8 cylinder around 20,000 miles ago. Nothing too bad as long as the truck is moving. Its when the truck sits for a few days or idles for 5 or 10 minutes that ...

As the title states, my engine seems to be lacking some top end power. It kind of stumbles and seems to lack a lot of response above 5K. My set up is a stock 69' 350 shortblock with World Sportsman II heads P&P and Lunati cam that specs out @ .507" lift and 235*/235* with a Holley 750 cfm carb and for ignition I have an MSD street fire HEI. It seemed to run best with about 36* timing without the...
