I find my gauge is a little looser on bamboo than metal, but other people are the opposite. It just depends on your knitting style. Are you using the Woolease T&Q? If not, that might be your problem...

The heel flap is always about half the stitches so it will be made on the needle with 32 stitches.

the back looks like filet crochet - where you start w/chain X stitches, then each row is dc, c2, dc, ch, etc. where you have all the dble crochets line up over each other. Can't tell if the front is all granny squares or a combination of granys and filet.

Lion Brand Yarn publishes a booklet called "Quick Knits with Speed Stix". All 9 projects in it are made with size 50 needles. I also recommend going to the LB website and doing a search for "Speed Stix". Happy Knitting! knitcindy

Yes, I am using the Wool-Ease Thick & Quick. I think I'll just go ahead and invest in the Addi Turbo needles. Even if they aren't the correct ones for this particular project, I'm sure I'll use them for another project later. Thanks for the advice.

ok I have found a pattern and have been working on it for awhile. I am almost to the part where I make the hel flap but here is my problem. I arranged the needles this way needle 1: 16 sts needle 2: 32 sts needle 3: 16 sts in the pattern it says: Place half the stitches (32) on one needle and continue as follows: Right side: *Sl1, k1: repeat from * to the end.
Wrong side: Sl1, p to the end. Repeat these 2 rows 14 times until the heel...

I think patterns with obvious diagonals (chevron, multi-directional, etc) look great with multi color striping yarns.

It's a pattern in a book so it can't be shared due to copyrights. This is a free pattern that is pretty easy. Many of us have learned to knit socks with it.

You might try the Lion Brand site. They have patterns for size 50. I think they call them Speed Styx or something like that. Also, do a search for a " Hot Damn" afghan. It's an old pattern but done on large needles.

The Learn to Knit a Sweater Book
Has anyone knit the "Perfect Pullover" sweater out of The Learn to Knit a Sweater Book? I'm having trouble with my gauge swatch. The pattern says the gauge should be 9 stitches in 4 inches using size 11 needles, but I'm getting 11 stitches per 4 inches. I've gone up to size 15 needles with the same result. I just ...

I looked at a couple patterns and w/worsted weight most of them cast on 100 stitches.
If the whole thing is knit in stockinette, the top and bottom edges will curl, but for a cowl that will probably be cute. You could do it in garter stitch if you didn't want it to curl.

It's garter, maybe super bulky yarn and huge needles like 35 or 50s. Even if the original was done with thicker yarn and larger needles, that should give you the same look. Normally you'd use 3 or 4 strands of bulky yarn on size 50 needles, so just using one strand would be similar.

When you cross 6 sts over another 6 sts, there's going to be some gaps -
that's just how cables are. Do the whole 16 row repeat and look at the
first cable, see if it looks better after you've knit more rows past it.
Pull down on your knitting a little; this can show you a little how it will
look when you're done. Washing and/or blocking will also even out the sts
somewhat.

Stitch patterns don't show up well in this type of yarn, so keep it simple
- garter, stockinette, ribbing or basket stitch.

Help me find a pattern!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A couple of weeks ago I found a pattern in these Forums SOMEWHERE for a pink reversible cable scarf. The person had posted a picture of this pink scarf folded in half so you could see both sides and it was reversible. I'm not sure if I had to click on a link to get the actual pattern or if the person had posted it ...
