I'd head out to Autobend Head Office at Vulcan Place. They have the ability to do what you require to a standard that would be acceptable on your fine machine as long as the quality you require is stressed. They are set up with a mandrel bender (does not reduce or squish the pipe) and all the expanding machinery. They also supply prebend pipes etc, which if you are handy, can allow you to mock-up exactly what you want at home with a good...

My new project - 1986 Honda...
Published (2009-12-07 21:19:00)
So I've been looking for a project for a while to keep me entertained and learn a bit more about bike mechanics. This is my first attempt at anything like this so I'm pretty excited. So last week this bike came up and I picked it up for $100. It's a 1986 Honda CBX250RS and it hasn't been running for 10 years. It's pretty messy, but in pretty good condition overall and all the parts are there. So the plan is: strip her...

OK So I've made a few post on KB about some issues I've had with my 1986 Honda GB before, mainly to do with loss of power and bad idle / 'popping and stopping'. So far, I've had 3 people look over it, mainly KG Motorcycles here in CHCH, no one can find the fault! It randomly pop's and stops, you hear air making a popping noise somewhere and the RPM drops about 1000, this only occurs on idle...

Cheers guys. It should be a fun little bike when it's done. AllanB, it was running fine before it was parked up for 10 years so I'm pretty confident it will go, but in the end I'm not too worried if I put the work in for nothing. This is more about the experience than the end result. And yes, the tyres are absolutely poked. lb99, thanks. I wouldn't have thought there'd be 2 oil filters....

depends to what level. "normally" at least rings, head gasket, plugs, general inspection. could also include bearings and even pistons themselves. Just depends on hours, whos riding and budget

I have just realised today, that when I park the bike and use the kick stand/ side stand ( of course) , it seems to slip a few cm's ~ inch on the ground on contact (maybe due to the weight put against it) after I get off the bike ? Is this normal? I have not realised this since I started riding but somehow just occured to me today. Such a noob I am if this is meant to be normal, haven't ...

OK so FZR's should have fuel pumps. If the engine is warm you'll need to open the throttle atleast 1/3 open to start but not full open. maybe check you Idle Air Screws. Resistors in leads may need a clean and Coil spade terminals too. Spark plugs looking at wont hurt. no 3 (from left) collects water if out in rain, lean bike to right to drain. Get yourself a 3LN manual from FZR250.com...
