WOOHOO!!! First items are starting to be processed. Apparently, different parts are being shipped from different places, which I half expected. The case is already in a package waiting to leave(I have the tracking number!), the DVD drive is "In process", and I assume the rest aren't far behind. Ordered Windows 7 Professional 64 bit tonight as well(umm, 'special' price- no, not OEM and all legal- don't...

I can only answer about the ram. Xp is going to give you a 3gb limit regardless if you have done that hack (don't have a link, sorry) You have to go 64bit to address more ram. It's not pretty, but it's the truth ---- what signature?

WUS, 1) you really need to research this... PCIe: do you even know what a real PCIe connection is or how it is suppposed to perform? its is a simultaneous bi directional multipath connection. in other words it does not require and IRQ to function. TRUE PCIe does not require IRQs in other words multiple devices can communicate simultaneously with out an Interupt. you really need to do some research on this. Maybe try disabling on board sound first? I noticed that some ASIO installs cause the Windows sound system to default to ASIO as well which it doesn't like. ---- www.myspace.com/BluffMunkey

I'm guessing jbridge is essential. Also, any elaboration of it's effectiveness will be welcome.
There was talk once of being able to run 32bit apps in x64 operating, but I can't remember how that conversation went.
Also, if a piece of hardware isn't x64, will it simply not run?? Hit or miss maybe?

I've got one. I can confirm the multitrack mode is 16-bit only. With careful gain staging, however, it's not really a problem.
Don't know about bit depth when using it as an audio interface.

If you're on XP, you may want to give the Realtek 1.61 driver a try first. Later XP driver versions have been bad news indeed.

Well, audio latency is comprised of the ASIO buffer size (twice: once for playback and once for recording) plus another millisec or two due to overhead of OS, driver and the audio interface. In some multitrack audio editors you can specify the latency and it will compensate by shifting recordings back in time by that amount.
Midi data follows a different path. So the latency depends on ...

Cool! Looks like my next laptop will be Asus or Toshiba.
I've traditionally been a Dell laptop guy, but my last one has been total rubbish. I've had it for 3 years and have had to use the warranty at least once every year.
