Sure its ethical. I don't see what the
objection could be if the pets are treated humanely.

But we are not all the same. I'm quoting
Maher here, "There should be a double standard because there are two sexes."

Mm, tough question. I'll respond in the format asked.
1. Yes, potentially. The critical question for me here is whether the
Fermi paradox is answered by intelligent species transcending biological embodiment or by extinguishing
themselves. I am still undecided as to which is the most likely outcome for the human race. I'd call it a coin flip at present. If we should survive,
technological ...

I'll first have to consult with my other half-self to see what we should post about this issue. We should of course always present a unified face to the
world -- we should never let anybody in on the secret that we're badly split.

I'm familiar with her. She has done some interesting research, although I lost interest in her as a person after reading some negative comments she had
made about
poor people on her blog.

I don't really know. I'm imagining:
First, there's a prideful mind with it's acts and beliefs. Then it passes through the curtains of the changing of the mind. And then it meets its
freinds of shame and embarrasment that say, "hello,
let's party."
That is, I don't know where fear seems to come from.

I don't think there's an ethical issue with watching these things, although I'll admit I'm put off by the people who watch "torture
porn" type of
horror movies for entertainment.
I read about the Russian maniacs a while back and haven't forgotten it yet. I have no interest in seeing video, given that what I read was quite disturbing
enough. If anyone here is sensitive to these things, I'd ...

In general, I find the same as you do: The people I've seen who have been depressed have become less religious or
nonreligious. Same goes for me, because I
had deep depression most of my life until about 3 years ago. I'd say that the way I've observed my own depression and heard people talk about theirs
makes it seem like depression was a sort of impetus to begin questioning and over-examining ...

Just once? I've been going around in that state for years, and see no end to it.

Very interesting. It reinforces my growing belief that religious thinking centers primarily around coping psychologically with the fact of death. Religious
(and some philosophical) thinking may be our way of attempting to do what
the chimps can apparently do naturally - forget ourselves and become identified with
something "larger," therefore keeping the consciousness of individual death at bay.
