Cassie got gold stars on everything except exciteablity. That is the one thing I am working on with her. She gets super excited when anyone visits and mauls them with puppy-love when they arrive. Usually she calms down after a few minutes. She just rubs up against people like she wants to get into their laps but knows that she can't jump up on them. I call it the full body hug. LOL Although it isn't so funny when your guests or...

That was a cool test, thank you for sharing. Tested Tigger and he got all gold stars except on 'chasing' and 'attention seeking' and he got red flags on those hehe.

Gene found related to canine...

Most breeders probably know of it, but many puppy buyers don't. And you're right, many people that breed will not do the testing even with the knowledge. They're irresponsible at best. They're not going to do anything that will cut into their profits because they're using their dog(s) as an income. It would be great if they could develop a protocol for needed testing for each breed and require it before allowing people...

Yes, the EIC test has been around for a bit of time. Like Ann said, some still don't know about it...HOWEVER...from where I sit, I am sad to report that many KNOW (Oh yes, they know very well about it) but are still NOT testing ! They claim the test is not 100% (meaning not ALL Carriers/Affected are actually Carriers or Affected but actually CLEARs or Carriers) , which I think is true, but they seem to think it means they shouldn't...

Interesting subject for sure. One of my neighbors had a golden retriever with arthritus in her front legs. None of my previous cockers had that problem though. Always the hips.

Awesome! I'm excited about my pups trying out too. Cerbies going to be delta society tested also, then he'd be ready for therapy visits. I think he's going to enjoy it.

Thanks K9 - I am wondering if Cassie doesn't have that as she has had a couple of collapses in the past which I attributed at the time to overheating because she was panting heavily. Both times it was during the summer and the temperature was nice but not too warm (~22oC) and she recovered quickly. I will discuss this with the vet. Thanks, Furbs

Well, that certainly stinks. I think its awfully commendable that you are doing the "right" thing, though, as much as it stings a bit right now

Well my trainer said to me this week Shara is not fit to compete in an obedience trial simply because she is holding her leg up too much from the luxating patillia. I do not know what I am going to do, the surgury is so expensive...I am thinking of getting her a brace from this site: http://www.orthopets.com/LISTgallery1.htm My parents think if she needs the surgury, to go ahead and do it,...
