Practical way to count calories....
Published (2009-11-27 23:24:00)
Here's a plan that works for me. Once someone showed me this, I never counted another calorie. There's a little math on the front end, after that, everything is easy. A gram of macro (carb/pro/fat) consistently has about the same number of calories. Fat: 1 gram = 9 calories Protein: 1 gram = 4 calories Carbohydrates: 1 gram = 4 calories Alcohol: 1 gram = 7 calories Using these numbers I back into what I need to eat for the day....

I use myfooddiary.com (it's a pay service) but I like the UI. For food that I don't know the nutritional data of I always check http://www.nutritiondata.com/ which uses the 7500+ items from the USDA database and all their custom units of measure. The best way I have found to measure food is by weight (that is how USDA does it as well) so buying a kitchen scale is essential at first to get your portion control under control. I use my...

Skinny fat help!!! cut or bulk?...
Published (2009-11-27 09:57:00)
Personally... I would cut first... then do a SLOW bulk (I learned my lesson from doing this wrong the 1st time!) Either way... eating at maintenance or cutting will get you to where you want to be long term.

Changing Fat to Muscle
Published (2009-11-27 18:52:00)
Yeah, sorta. This is known as recomping. It happens very slowly, though. I'd rather just reduce my calories a bit for a few months. As for needing a surplus to build muscle, this isn't really true, but again, eating above maintenance will make the process go a lot faster. Also, you're not really changing fat to muscle. You're slowly losing fat and slowly gaining muscle. Your muscle isn't really being built from your...

Changing Fat to Muscle
Published (2009-11-27 18:22:00)
I have a question. Most of the experts in here state that you have to eat a surplus of calories in order to build muscle. So, let's say a person is 15 pounds overweight, and that person weighs 185 pounds. That person also eats at maintenance levels (enough to maintain 185 pounds). With heavy weight training consistently, will that person eventually gain muscle to the point that they burn the fat they have since their body requires the...

Eat at maintenance and continue with your current routine. Make sure you are lifting heavy. Give it time.

Also check out this link: Wave_Length Now wave probably takes it to the extreme but it does show you how much freedom you could have while still making progress. Check out the links at the bottom and you'll see what I'm talking about. He posts his...

I find these occasional "exposés" of TBL a bit obvious. People stand to win a lot of money by losing the most weight... and some people do extreme things to win. Surely no one saw that coming, right? I don't buy Ryan's assertions that he's been "shunned" for the things he said. I think he's not being featured because he's simply not a success story.

Rubito, You've got a couple of questions and some concerns here. Let me see if I'm hearing you. 1) You are concerned that the ab routine you are using isn't doing any good. If your evidence is that you don't see the six pack yet, don't worry about your routine. Your diet will show you those abs. In that case, cut down a few pounds. 2) You are concerned about your form on ...
