Is being a paralegal that bad?

Paralegal in Dallas, Texas said: Yes, my first 6 years were sweet. Awesome law firm. Totally uninterested attorneys, total slackers, left me to do what I wanted which was great. Mass tort litigation didn't require much attorney intervention. No dress code. No set hours. Could come and go as you pleased. But, then SOL ran and the mass tort cases all ended. No work...... I cannot imagine having 6 years straight working in legal, with few...

Wow, that's interesting. We didn't get to take any electives. Everyone just took the same classes - 5 months, 6 hours a day, 4 days a week.

Guys, you all have some great advice! I'm sorry I was so slow in responding...Christmas cards, presents, etc. Holiday craziness! I did file my appeal and I have consulted with an attorney. As evidence, we are submitting the IL House bill that has been drafted in legislation regarding workplace aggression. There is a task force that is "collecting" data on workplace aggression, bullying and harassment. I agree. I felt...

I cannot imagine any litigation that does not require attorney intervention. Mass tort litigation is pretty strong litigation. Sounds to me like the attorneys had a lack of interest in their practice, just thought things would take care of themselves - and their practice disentegrated.

Displaced Legal Professional in Denver, Colorado said: Seconded. The hearing officer would likely sustain an objection that forum writings are irrelevant and immaterial. You have to document a pattern of bullying and abuse. Also set forth what you did to try to mitigate the situation. E.g., did you ever try to initiate a civilized sit-down with the attorney? Did that individual? Did the situation improve for a time after a sit-down and then...

Fed up paralegal in Florida
Published (2009-12-15 00:20:03)
This is for FED UP in Pompano Beach........I know that feeling, there is a price to be paid for the sun in Florida that's the reason I packed up and left with my kid two years ago. We have never looked back. Was hired by a Chicago fim at $54K in the middle of a deep recession. have had two pay raises since and am happy to report that I am tipping at double my salary in South Florida. BTW my three bedroom apartment in an affluent suburb...

Cut and pasting - no, it would not help. Unemployment needs your documented accounts (not our "literary reading.") Start your documentation with the date you were hired, the attorney's behavior towards you. Identify dates (or close enough) of attacks, what work activity was going on, identify who was present. One of the last ones should be when the attorney attacked you and told you to deal with it. That says right...

What if you don't have current experience. Thatis what these employers want these days. Employers can be choosy, since so many people are applying for the same job. I am 3 classes away from obtaining my paralegal certificate, and I have 15+ years of legal secretary/assistant experience, and I have not been successful in getting back into the legal industry. Working as an unpaid intern will at least give me some current experience. You...

The paralegal profession is not regulated. There is no license to obtain or maintain. You are just at the mercy of the lawyer and/or firm you apply to. Some do background checks, some don't. I would not tell anyone about it though. With so many paralegal applicants in the world the competition is stiff and the firms can be picky. My guess is if they know about it during the ...

The LSAT is only if your applying to law school. If you just want to be a paralegal, there is absolutely no need to take it. ALso, since you don't have a paralegal degree, you will need a paralegal certificate.

The San Francisco State University College of Extended Learning has a highly respected ABA approved Paralegal Certificate Program. It meets in downtown SF just steps above the Powell Street BART Station. It costs approx $6000.00. If offers daytime and nightime classe so the schedule is very good for working adults. aciosa in Mableton, Georgia said: I have my accounting degree but I am burnt out on that field. I understand. I have an accounting degree that I never used until I went into law. Accounting is terribly detailed oriented and tedious work.

Hi everybody, I'm a college student and I just switched my major to paralegal studies which I'll be starting next semester. Part of one of my classes right now though, is I have to interview someone in a field I'm interested in, namely paralegals. I have had a lot of trouble getting someone in my area to sit down for an interview and I've found this message board very useful. So I ...

I've heard of the mag. It never hurts to read and keep abreast of the industry. I have gathered the mag is heavily biased in favor of paralegal careers, so don't expect much anti-paralegal career discussion.
Take paralegal magazine articles with a grain of salt. Some paralegal magazines depict the vocation unrealistically. One user here was spouting off some malarkey about freelance...

At least around here, Spanish ability is a plus for some paralegal jobs. A number of firms want Spanish-speaking paralegals - primarily PI, WC and immigration firms. But the vast majority of firms here don't require paralegals to speak Spanish or other language.
Denver has traditionally had a large Hispanic population, though back in the day Hispanics spoke English. Now Denver also ...
