Actually Gary, its not just Jeeps with drums, its any vehicle with drums. Here's what happens, the self adjusters get clogged with brake dust and anything else that can get in there, or they rust into place. If they rust into place its obvious they need to be replaced, BUT if all they are is clogged up with gook, cleaning them is enough, I use white lithium grease in ever self adjuster I fix, and I have found that grease keeps out more,...

I think some of the claims of the deafening ride are exaggerated (unless on mudders or other certain circumstances). I've had 3 Wranglers, all configured differently from basic soft top, to hard top, to sailcloth, and from street tires, to AT's, to mudders. None were that obnoxious.
