Spare Tire??

what if your pinch happens on the I-5 through LA? You going to drive 70 mph on a different sized spare? Up to you. It's your Patriot. (although it's not, because a Patriot doesn't fit a 265 or a 315 series tire)

No worries, thanks for checking. As it turns out, Tirerack was right all along. They listed all the tires that had the snowflake symbol, and the ones that didnt. Looks like i'll me getting a dedicated set of winter tires from a buddy at a stellar deal (Michelin Latitude X-Ice for $150/set). That should tie me over until the spring where i'll be looking to replace the OEM LS2 tires that already have 20,000k on them.

Spare Tire Dilema

I considered the duratracs but they were 45 dollars more a tire and had to be special ordered. We are limited out here in Eastern Oregon, but try your local tire shop. They did look awesome!

The extended warranty won't do much good once someone says, "wow, you've had work done to this x amount of times, and you have a lift"... At some point, the lift will hinder your warranty work, as it already has on your rear. I agree the lift isn't the sole source of your problems, but it can certainly contribute and is likely the cause of your leaky axle joints. Everyone loves a lift - I do too - but the...

Boilermaker, There has been a lot of discussion here about the front end issues. Possibly made worse by the RRO lift. There are quite a few on here though with the lift without any serious problems. So I wouldn't outright expect it to need replacing every 30k.

They are great tires, if they fit the Pat then I might consider them when I need new tires. They are pretty quiet and can be studded.

I think the back spacing on those rims allows large tires like that to be used. Only way to find out is to try them. They will be very heavy, I have heavy tires on and i can tell the extra weight is there, I haven't wrecked anything yet with my heavy tires. Big thing with tires like that is just don't make any crazy sudden moves as that will really put the stress on the drivetrain.

Sounds to me like you might want to get rid of the lift first. Have you had problems with the rear at all? I've got about 38k on my '07 FDII including a lot of punishing off-road use and highway. I think there may be some lose items up there (I have some creaks and noise) but haven't had a chance to take it in yet - nothing severe as popping ball joints.

first things first the lift might lower mpg by about 1 mi, secondly do you plan to do much off-roading or street driving. I think the main thing you would need to consider is weight of the tires and the OD. I imagine that if you get a tires that not much heavier then the ones you have now and the OD is not an outrageous size you will get pretty close to the same mpg.

Hollywood - there are many winter tire threads located in this forum and both of your choices were discussed by members. You may consider upsizing at least one step to make the Pat look more aggressive.

IMO, bottom line - AWD all tires must be same diameter.
You could do a search for an extensive thread that discussed this.

After reading a few other posts it looks like the 7" wheel will only be pushed out about 1/4" from stock which I can live with. Still not sure what this extra ring is for and if i need it or not. The wheels I'm curently looking at don't come with it, but from what others have siad it's needed. Help would be greatly appreciated on this.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I was wondering if colder weather affects anyones low tire pressure light? It hit-20 today and on the way to work everything was good. After work i started it up at -16 and let it warm up a bit, then as soon as i put it in drive, the low pressure light went on. I went and looked and all the tires were still round and checked them with my tire gauge and they were all at 32psi. I'm not ...

oh yeah have had this problem on another vehicle before-crown vic- it's easy when you have a car on a lift, but just off the ground it is hard to get in the right position. On that crown vic I layed almost underneath the car and kicked it from the inside of the tire. VERY DANGEROUS! I had a few jackstands on it though. This is good info for the rest of us. Always carry some PB Blaster, WD-...

Two things...
1) Why wouldn't it fit in the spare tire compartment? That's only a 1.3" larger diameter and .4" wider (tread) than the stock FDII tire which is also the full-size spare, have you tried it fitting one of your new tires in the compartment? I'd doubt there are two sizes of spare tire pans.
2) You DO NOT need a lift to install those tires. Get'em on!

I don't think 90% of us even knew there was a place that told what tires weigh.
Since it is sitting on the ground it won't cost against the hauling capacity. It will only increase the mass of the car as the engine moves it from still.
So, I vote no. It won't make any difference. Not that size anyway. If you were talking about monster truck tires or solid rubber tires that would be a ...

I've seen someone from this forum installed 30.7" MTR tires and lift on FD2...
They look real good and aggressive... Perfect for some off-roading... Here's a pic from his thread.
