That's terrible news. I don't find any news stories on this yet. When did this happen? And where should people write Claude Moreira to offer the support he is seeking?

It depends on your criteria. If it's albums released in the 2000's or just albums that you heard in the 2000's which leaves it open to reissues and/or older albums you're just now hearing for the first time. Either way I agree that despite all the odds it was indeed a good decade for Jazz.

Look, good for him. Why should he not give his opinion in a forthright manner? He earns it every time he plays, puts out a CD, and keeps Thirsty Ear going. He's certainly earned that respect from him based on his music alone. I happen to have a lot of Shipp's music, and I enjoy it very much. I've discussed this on here quite often actually, though obviously in different terms. The reverence given to the history of Jazz is...

NP: Bill Carrothers - Keep Your Sunny Side Up Carrothers has got to be one of the most under-rated jazzmen out there. Earlier: Bill Stewart - Incandescence I've always enjoyed this record. It's got a very distinctive sound: piano, organ & drums. Cool. George Schuller & the Schulldogs - Tenor Tantrums Freakin' great record featuring a two-tenor front line of Tony Malaby & George Garzone.

Hey everyone! Thanks for the debate. I've decided, after some PM interaction, to remove myself from this debate. So this is my final post in the thread.
I can't claim to have learned anything about the ECM Sound, but then in retrospect I now realize that was never going to be possible. In the end I have to go with my ears. I know what I hear. As such, ECM discs are due some ...

There are plenty, and I'm sure you'll get many good suggestions. A couple
of obvious ones, which should be easy to find, are Kenny Burrell and Ramsey
Lewis, both originally on Argo/Cadet and now part of the Verve
"LPR" series. Jimmy Smith's "Christmas '64" was reissued recently - this
time with the original title. One of my favorites is Wynton Marsalis'
"Crescent City Christmas" - actually, it's ...

There is so much from this decade that i haven't heard: Keeping up and simultaneously playing catchup on the 2000's alone is as much of a mission as catching up on the last 70 years! I have only just started really exploring the Clean Feed catalogue, so i think guys like Adam Lane, Darren Johnston, Harris Eisenstadt, Scott fields et al will be in my ' Best of 2000's' lists of the ...

It's not easy replacing someone like John Coltrane!
IIRC, Miles was trying out several different tenor players during this period: Sonny Stitt, Sam Rivers, Mobley, before he eventually settled on Coleman for a while.
I guess you can't know how well a band will "work" until you give it a try.
I don't think it was a matter of Miles not liking Mobley's sound per se -- as much as ...

The pianist sounds a lot like Ahmad Jamal, but I could be wrong.
The tune sounds really familiar... I'll revisit it in the morning when my brain is fresh.

Columbia is probably going to put out a Special Congressional Edition of Kind of Blue , surely followed by a commemorative Anniversary Congressional Edition after an appropriate number of years.

Here's a classic for a change; nothing to do with my great hobby - jazz - but with the hobby of my boyhood days: fishing.
