Out of curiosity, do you mean a heat mat or hydronic flooring?
Either way, yes. Versabond is Customs
lower end. I like Megaflex myself, but it is pricey, probably 3 times the Versabond price. But there is a warranty with using Wonderboard and Megaflex installations according to manufacturer's instructions.

You require a sloped floor before the
water proofing method, whichever you choose. Better read a few books on setting tile and preparing the pan before you proceed.

odor. The weight didn't cause too much concern though any improvements to lighten it up??

To bad your architect is that far out of the loop.
Definitly be concerned with the durability of any stone or ceramic
flooring in a gym with weight lifting equipment.
He should have specified "Gorilla Grip" or some such other flooring specific to that environment.
This matterial also comes with transition peices and different colors.

Hi Charles, thank you! For shimming out CBU I think the most cost-effective option is to rip a sheet of 1/4:" plywood in the shop and install the rips on the studs with a crown
stapler.
I think this extra step is worth it. I just inspected a shower that looked great in all respects except the bottom course of tile kicked out of plumb by ~3/8" in the lower 12" because of the folds of ...

All throughout that thread I was scratching my head thinking about what he was trying to accomplish.
I just chalked it up to confusion and not fully understanding what he had read on his part.

Start with the installation instructions for the particular stove. They will specify the distances from the stove to adjacent walls. If you comply with those, there won't be enough heat to cause a problem
with standard installations. For yours I'd use Hadibacker and modified thinset.
