spark plug platinum or not
Published (2009-11-03 20:31:00)
How is "double platinum" better than platinum? Sounds like marketing BS, though I am no expert. And if you don't think you need them, I wouldn't bother changing them. If your plugs are okay, you don't have much to gain by swapping in new ones. If your gaps are right and the electrodes are not worn or corroded and covered in carbon, whatever you have should be fine. Platinum doesn't necessarily produce a...

Dying battery issues?
Published (2009-11-04 11:09:00)
I have a 90 Isuzu Trooper that I just bought, and runs great...when it starts. It first happened last night when I parked, and when I came back the battery was dead. THe previous owner put a new battery and new alternator in it. My girlfriend came with her car and I jumped it, which worked and off I went. When I got to school and shut it off, it again would not start. Get this...after my 3 hour class, it started right up. I drove home,...

Got it! Someone somewhere mentioned using a 2x4. So I wedged a 2x4 (cut to the right length) under the wheel stud (with a lug nut on it to protect the threads) in the 9 o'clock position, which kept the whole mess from rotating while I tried to break my breaker bar. I nearly stripped the hell out of one of the bolt tops and broke a quality socket because the damn thing was so stuck. But this ...

Oh, perhaps related: you check the ATF level with the dipstick behind the engine oil dipstick, right? It looked like ATF, and it was reading well over the full line. How would I go about removing some of the fluid, or even draining it all and refilling it, if necessary? I doubt this is causing my shifting problem, though I would like to rectify it. I have done lots of basic work on my own cars ...

Hi, I'm new to Troopers, just got a 95, so I'm far, far from an expert. But no one seems to be answering questions so here's my take on this:
The RX-7 guys that taught me everything had a rule of thumb about engine swaps: if you have to ask, you don't want to attempt it. That is not to say this can't be done - swaps with US domestic, RWD, pre-OBD-II cars and trucks, and with various Hondas, ...

i have the same starting problem. most time i have to fight with it, and attempt to start it three times. I've been told this is a battery issue, with not giving enough power to crank. But if you have a new battery.....well then i'm stumped.
the second thing happens to me as well, and i have no clue what it is. i usually throw it in neutral at a red light, and if the idle goes down, i gas it ...

Ok, I have a head gasket issue so I'm trying to pull the head. The headbolts are allen head (what a wonderful suprise). It's my understanding that they are torqued to about 70 footpounds. Given that, I am unable to break them loose. I've had a half inch breaker bar on it, an impact wrench and no luck...suggestions (other than fire or a cutting torch........
