Muslim husbands have to provide...

But is wanting to send your children to the best schools materialistic? Not wanting...

Quote: Salika said I'm curious, just want to ask... do you think a woman can maintain any figure she wants (health issues aside)? Like she just loves food or uses food as a coping mechanism and it makes her gain a lot of weight... I see the comparison you are trying to make, but I dont think its valid. [It wasn't clear to me if you had addressed it in your post above.] Ibn M, there is a difference between personal preference and religious mandate. If you personally want to restrict yourself to a certain cultural background, then by all means. You can, for instance, decide that you only want to marry blondes. That's ok. But none of that is part of...

Though I've never heard a man say anything like that, so I don't know.. homemakers? but islamically, a woman isn't obligated to do housework...whereas a man is obligated to provide for his wife. In general, the husband should be able to provide the same standard of living [or better] as the girl is used to.
Also, just because the father is earning $500K doesnt mean the his son-in-law also has to, just to provide the same standard of living. The guy earning $500K probably has a bigger house to support. The new son-in-law could probably make $100K and still provide the same standard ...
