My wife just told me yesterday she got a newsletter from the National Education Association (I think it was the NEA) that their reps are going to be lobbying for there to be no income tax rebates handed out to individuals, and all the money that was going to be sent out in rebates be put into an educational fund for the nation. I'm not real happy about that idea and I don't think anyone else will be either. We need to keep our...

If you agree with your employer that you'll sell them, say, 40 years of full-time service in exchange for an annual salary with set raise parameters, periodic vacation time, medical and dental, and a pension plan, then I don't see how it's socialism to collect your pension. Seems like a purely capitalist arrangement to me...you've delivered the service you contracted for and you're entitled to the compensation....

If you put in 15 years doing service like that you better be making 80K. It's not that much in today's economy. I was making 65K+ in '95. It didn't go all that far, and my live in girlfriend made about the same. House payments, car payments, and yes, some toys and you wonder WTF. I am working 60 hours a week, doing a commute and it's hardly "the life". It does depend of course on where you live. I was...

Coming from a family of teachers, and being a teacher myself, I have way too much to say on this and I believe most of it will fall on deaf ears. So let me just say the following. Education is a complex relationship among the student, parents, teachers, administration, the government, and the union. It is never just one element at fault; it is never just one element that should get the credit. IMO there is one fundamental shift in education in...

I certainly don't begrudge them higher salaries, especially in expensive areas - but what irks me is people blaming the failures of the kids in 'underprivileged'' areas on the teachers.. the days of teacher being able to instill the fear of God into pupils vanished back in the 70's when Progressives decided that children should be 'related to' and 'respected'. combine that with horrific parenting...

My wife is a teacher and she doesn't make even 60% of that salary, it is
very dependent upon where you teach though (state and section of state). I
don't necessarily think the education systems budget problems are from the
teachers being paid too much. I think the budget cuts are due to the
government being broke and just cant dish out the money it used to be able
to to the states, just a trickle...

The problem with our country is that we support people who make bad decisions and have kids, when they shouldn't. Just in terms of government control and not the enviromental issue, consider the following.
I understand both sides of the argument: on one hand, it's not the kid's fault that he/she was born to idiots who weren't able to provide, on the other hand, it is not the responsibility ...

I dont agree with any establshed religion, although I was raised christian and love the picture of Christ. I've lost my religion and am pretty happy about it. I avoid having blind faith in anything. I might very well become religious again, and knew this while dumping out christianity, but I need some more understanding and realizations on different subjects before creating definite opinions. ...

Of course global warming exists, only a fool would say otherwise.
Most of the debate around this subject is simply far too complicated for people who aren't highly trained in sciency subjects to understand. People should not be forming opinions on things they know nothing about.
