Recs: 1 Re: Debt Couldn't Buffett buy up all their debt at 56, then come in and provide any needed liquidity for USG as a going concern, erasing all bankruptcy doubts and profit big time when the debt inevitably rebounds with bankruptcy off the table. Seems like he could virtually guarantee himself a handsome return by playing both sides of it. That's assuming he still ...

Recs: 1 Consumer Prices ...post a notable drop. This is actually a mixed bag, but I see more good than bad in this insofar as fighting back against recession/ depression. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Consumer-prices-drop -record-1-apf-13618213.html

Recs: 0 Two questions I have two questions: 1) If credit default swaps are reliable predictions of the future, what did they tell us about the future in 2007 (or 2006, 2004, 2003, 2002, etc.)? Why do you think 2008 credit default swaps will be more prescient? 2) If USG were really on track for bankruptcy, when do you suspect they'd run out of cash?

Recs: 0 Re: Whiney Tilson? Why care about the spreads? yep they just can't buy brk. they have to create a synthetic way to get leverage because buying brk doesn't offer enough juice....tilson is an in and out trader if you watch his 13-fs...one of the pitfalls of hearing so many great ideas on his whisper circuit... thread start

Recs: 0 Re: WEB Loses His Mind? Along with every poster here, I suppose? Agreed, I am relying on the Bloomberg account being accurate with respect to Fuld's statement. Now of course Fuld could be lying, buy my professional guess (legally speaking) is that he is not lying. Fuld was recently subpoenaed by federal prosecutors for a grand jury re LEH and likely was questioned ...

Recs: 0 Re: WEB Loses His Mind? Along with every poster here, I suppose? I will make it easier for you.. Yes, I think he is losing some his mind. He is getting older, and its not uncommon for people who get older to lose to some sense. The LEH trade would have been executed had it not been for Fuld's rebuff would have been a complete wipeout. There was no trade to do with...

Recs: 0 Fitch downgrades GMAC on losses This downgrade on 72 billion, is going to send their cost of capital through the roof. I'm surprised the stock market has fallen harder. I suspect S&P and Moody's will not be far behind with their downgrades. If they also downgrade GM the market will go into freefall. -------------------------------------------------- - Fitch ...

Recs: 0 Pension Funds Government bailing out everything else. Very quiet, so far, about pension funds being in trouble. I see some retailers are now hiring older workers. Kinda strange to see a gray hair doing the register at a store like Lowes instead of some high school drop out. The new affirmative action? Hire the old. PSY .

Recs: 1 Re: WEB Loses His Mind? Along with every poster here, I suppose? Let me see if I have this correct, you are saying if someone ALMOST makes a poor investment decision that means he has "lost his mind"? Is there any poster here who has never ALMOST made a mistake in choosing an investment? And if ALMOST making a poor investment qualifies one for having "lost his ...
