Here is Kelly's response to my querstion onland acquisition. "James The recent Marcellus transaction that Ultra announced already has about 92% of the acreage held by production. The non acquisition acreage that Ultra has in the Marcellus has some drilling committments the company will be making over the next couple of years. From just the handful of wells that have  been drilled  in the Marcellus the reurns rival...

Agree with you, Andy, writing puts in a sideways market is slightly more profitable than writing calls.  there's a skew in the volatility because if you are put the stock you can write the next call, pocket the premium and actually hope you will get rid of the stock to re-deploy funds in new best vehicle.  However, this is a trading mentality, not buy and hold.   Buy and hold in a sideways market is dead money,...

So just how difficult is it to say Ultra Petroleum?   Matt Nesto just butchered it, but regardless, he mentioned the Conviction Buy on cnbc . . .   Enjoy it for today, and hopefully for some time to come.   Cheers and Happy New Year to Ultra shareholders! a_mom

RedSox, I am sorry , I am going to have to call you on this one. In the your most recent post, the one I am replying to, you state, " With all the talk in the media about natrual gas being the place to be, my questions are: "Are we at the start of another mania for Nat Gas Companies? If so how will this play out?". I get the sense that we are in for another big momentum move in natural gas stocks" This is one heck of a flip...

Translation: "I thought it was going down, but it may go up...and I really don't know why". Re: Perspective-RedSox Make no mistake, I will not be buying at these levels. I have bids in for SWN and RRC at much lower levels, and I did not change them today. As do a lot folks, I typically leave a low ball bid in where these E&P stocks gap up in the morning and then wait for things to calm down. They have always filled, without...

IMO purchasing bonds isn't a very bright idea. As the governments continue to fund their deficit spending the value of currencies will continue to decline resulting in a substantial reduction of purchasing power. In effect, the loss in purchasing power of your principal more than offsets the interest earned from a bond investment. msg 30768

* Pennsylvania increases number of gas well regulators * Neighbors say they are ignored in favor of industry By Jon Hurdle PHILADELPHIA, Dec 30 (Reuters) - As U.S. energy companies scramble to mine natural gas from shale deposits, state regulators are struggling to keep pace amid criticism that they lack the resources to enforce environmental laws. Shale gas trapped deep underground is considered one of the most promising sources of U.S....

Anyone know what the NPV of the XTO proven/probable reserves are in the recent buyout? Know what figures/numbers they used (length of life for reserves? % used for NPV discounting?) Have been out of UPL for a few months, but now back in. Any help with these numbers appreciated. Thanks,
