Saturday, November 7, 2009 David Einhorn, who enjoys his considerable reputation for hard-fought battles against firms with shaky finances and dubious accounting (Alliance Capital and Lehman), has taken aim at a new and equally deserving target: credit default swaps. In an interesting bit of synchronicity, Einhorn?s comments in a letter to investors overlap to a considerable degree with a post we wrote yesterday on why a clearinghouse for...

DJ found the quote from Michael Dell about being too fragile.  But I still think a player said they were "just to unstable".  I think it might have been Intel also.    Come to think about it, may it was Ashoc Kumar.  No? msg 161579

pete   I am not doubting your analysis on the efficiency etc....what I am questioning is your apparent determination to strip the consumer of freedom of choice....while I understand that no freedom is unlimited and rocket engines cannot be employed on street vehicles etc.....it seems you really wish to limit choice in a very severe fashion...I have neighbors with 4 children...a big minivan is quite important to them .... much of...

Republican Wins in Virginia, New Jersey Build Momentum for 2010 There were seven candidates running in this week's three most closely watched races, and six weren't what you'd call prime political talents. With the possible exception of big winner Bob McDonnell, now the Republican governor-elect of Virginia, charisma took a holiday. Competence did too, in some cases. It was painful to watch Virginia Democrat Creigh Deeds unable...

Caution: morons at work: You have to understand, it's OK to violate the law as long as the consumer benefits. *** Today, the New York State Attorney General filed a federal lawsuit against Intel Corporation, accusing the company of violating state and federal antitrust laws. The following statement can be attributed to Ken Ferree, Senior Fellow at The Progress & Freedom Foundation: It's unfortunate that the NY Attorney General...

Two key excerpts from the article . I wish they'd done a test to see how high the chip would go on stock voltage and the stock fan.   Overclocking Whereas we had to resolve to somewhat arctic temperatures to squeeze 3.8GHz stable operation out of the previous revision, the C3 revision manages 4GHz at only a minor core voltage increase and air cooling at ambient room temperature.     We were able to get into...

Is he getting the benefits of Medicare/Social Security? ------------------------------------------------------- Yeah, benefits like he pays both sides (totaling near 15% of his income) into SS. No he receives no benefits, because he's still working. My point was he paid taxes every year on what he earned, then got the crap nailed out of them when the partnership went bad. Doesn't the fed realized they already taxed those earnings...
