Hi Amylynn~ Thanks for your reply! I would love to hear what he has to say to you. You know what? Another gal on the boards named Jill also has an appt. with him this same day! Maybe you two will run into each other! So you had to keep a voiding log for 3 days? What did this consist of? Is it to see how many times a day you pee or to see how much volume you pee out? Please keep me posted on how it goes! I'm excited for you!! Hope all goes...

Musiclover- Thanks for the information! Do you start the macrobid before or after the instill? How often do you get the instills?

I did one round of instills, one a week for six weeks. I took one macrobid as soon as they finished the instill, or usually within a few minutes at least, to ward off any UTIs from catheterization. Maybe your doc would be willing to give you an RX for one pill each time.

Elmiro & platelets ?

Hey there, I have ITP also. The elmiron is a blood thinner so therefore causing problems with the thinning of your blood, which may have worsened your ITP. If you can stay away from other things that cause blood to thin, like grapes, wine (I know we can not drink this anyway...but some may..so figured I mentioned it), asprin, advil, ibiprofin, vinegar (we can not take this anyway, but vinegar is a blood thinner).... IF you can eat organic...

I use a single pill holder for all of them. I usually don't forget to take any of my meds- the Elmiron I take twice daily first thing when I get up and within an hour of going to bed.

Hi Amy, I'm envious that your insurance will cover it It's expensive to drive down there and stay in a hotel and pay for the appointment too. I guess it's well worth it in the end if he can help my daughter and I feel better Definitely lets compare notes next week. We'll be driving half way home after the appointment and returning home on Wednesday afternoon. We'll have our lap top so hopefully I can still use that to...

Hi Lttlewun,
I think if you have an HMO you will need a referral through your PCP before you can see any specialist (I'm assuming you had to get one to see the Uro you see now, unless he/she is your PCP?). Anyway, I have been seeing a Uro who actually recommended me to see Dr. Parsons. I called about 2 months ago and and was told by Dr. Parson's office that the first available appt was in...

I bet that is very frustrating. I remember wishing it didn't take so long to work when I was in the early months, too. Tough decision of whether or not to forge on with it, huh?

My IC dr says I can take all three at once, before bed, if I haven't eaten for 4 or 5 hours. So, early dinner, late bed, pills before bed. I think this is also good because it sits in my bladder for 6 hrs instead of getting peed out all day.

Did it just start or has it been happening since you started Elmiron?
I'd definitely talk to your uro - see if he can rule out other causes as well. That seems like a lot of hair loss to just be the Elmiron, but I guess it certainly could be. If it is the Elmiron I think the only way to make it stop would be to stop the med, unfortunately. Some people here have said they stopped it for 2 ...

Is the elmiron keeping your symptoms under control? Sometimes we have to make some difficult decisions. I have heard, but don't have any confirmation at all, that taking a break from the elmiron helped some people. I also know several people who stopped taking it due to hair loss.
I had a different side effect (headache) and had to stop taking it.

I have been on since 2001 and haven't experienced that. I hope others will chime in, too.
I do wonder if the diuretic is playing a role in your symptoms returning.
