Many questions about Atarax

Hi. I hope you don“t mind but I have some questions about atarax. I can not get elmiron or elavil in my country, so atarax is all I have for now. My questions are: 1. How long till it starts working (average time)? I mean those of you who use it, when did you notice that it actually does work? 2. How does it work for you, is it less pain or less frequency, urgency or all together? 3. Do you take it only in evening? I read on this forum that...

Bojana, don't let us scare you too much. After my initial weight gain from Hydroxyzine, the side effects seem to have subsided. I no longer get drowsy from it, and the weight gain effect seems to have tapered, also. I quickly gained a few pounds from it, but then lost it again, except for a pound or two, and now my body doesn't seem to react to it the same way anymore. I feel like my body knew how to adjust to it within just a few...

I have taken Atarax for the Last 16 years.
Not for anything related to IC.
I have a Genetic Tumor disease , and it causes me to Itch like I fell naked in a sticker bush.
My tumors are basically called Mass Cell.
Atarax is an Anti Histamine which is a Mass Cell Blocker , and it allows the itching to subside. ( For Me )
I can take > 100 mg's , 3 Times day.
It does not ...

Allergy season is horrible for me, and I cannot take vistaril or antihistames, they all increase my frequency tremendously! Unfortunately for me allergy season is from sept to June! I am trying acupuncture with little success and just praying for the elmiron to kick in soon (I have been on it for about 7 months, very slight improvement in level of pain so far) You definetly might want to give ...

Have you seen your doctor? If not, I think you should call today. You might have an infection working --- you really need to talk with your doctor.

most antihistamines cause weight gain. I gaine 3 lbs the first week I was on Vistaril, continued to gain weight and it wasn't helping so I stopped after a few weeks. I have tried Zyrtec and gained on that too, and am now on Benedryl and seem to have not gained weight (I only take 2 a night). You might want to give that a try

Hi! I'm on 50 mg of Hydroxyzine nightly. It helps a little. I was watching Jill Osbourne's videos and she said when starting a new IC therapy you have to give it at least three months to know if it's helping. I was hoping that meant that the Hydroxyzine may kick in even more possibly. But maybe this is it. I've been having pressure symptoms lately and OAB meds don't seem to touch it.

Hi Musiclover,
I wish I had an answer for you in regards to the benadryl question...I was just curious though-did Dr. Theoharides advise that everyone taking Cystoprotek should be taking Atarax along with it? Sorry, I just want to clarify what you said.....
Thanks,
Jill

I tried it for my asthma because my mother, also asthmatic, reacted very well to it and it gave her a lot more breath.
I had a fairly unusual reaction to it. After about 6 weeks, I had dreadful muscle weakness. I always take the same walk, have for years, and I was having to sit repeatedly throughout it.
This was new, this was different. I thought, I sure am aging quickly!...

hydroxyzine did make me crave sugar... but as I would take it 30 min before bed, I'd just drink some herbal tea (blueberry is my fav), then brush my teeth and go to bed.
I've heard 5 HTP helps w/ food cravings, but you want to talk to a dr or nutritionalist before taking it -I'm not a dr or anything.
