Plastic Screen Media Decoder

Two thoughts: It's a simple colour filter, disguised with a zigzag pattern - the "coded" image was simply hidden amongst coloured patterns. The image was posted in stripes of "proper" image alternating with stripes of gibberish. The zig-zags covered the gibberish with a uniform colour, allowing you to distinguish the "proper" image. Any links, photos or screen-shots?

SmartMedia problem
Published (2009-11-03 13:15:00)
Try FAT32, and maybe NTFS. Your camera might say "that's not the right format" and outright reject them, in which case you'll change them back to FAT. Then see if the messing around of the ones and zeroes did anything to help. If, like Caitlinsdad suggests, the camera reformats the cards itself, it'll probably do so in a way it likes best. Also, I've had memory (flash drives) that seem to think they...

Cheap Lithium ion batteries - help?

Just a thought, attach a load to the gnd and one source, see if they both drop. Maybe a dual battery in a single case, or two terminals for different model phones?

Printer hack needed
Published (2009-11-04 14:33:00)
The big Users Guide (search on Google) has a bullet under "Papers to Avoid" that specifically says "banner paper." Perhaps this is a hardware/sensor issue on the printer? I really hate to suggest this (given my own past experience), but have you tried calling HP tech support? Don't hesitate to ask that the problem be escalated if the call center...

Anyone know what this is?
Published (2009-11-06 11:57:00)
I know! But the question is where to find!?!? I've googled every number/word on that screenshot of the boot screen, in every logical combination and google has nothing to offer me.

Robotic Biomimicry

I'd love to try, there appears to be two types made in the video, but the one which you get to see the print of is the harder of the two. Plus, gotta fit electronic microprocessors and stuff in.

Yeah, you have to wonder sometimes why some things get multiple views and others are left alone (sometimes it is understandable but other times....)

Dear amech3,
I'm very interested in your working version of the Van Helsing Rapid Fire Crossbow if it is made to scale.
Please contact me if it is still available at BurbellaRon@cs.com.
If you have pictures, please send them or post them.

Thanks crapflinger. You know, I already have this fancy stuff in
the house and some $20 cameras, the transeivers... why pay for the
boosters when I can really screw things up. It's a lot more fun
too. Now, I have several 5v adapters for defunct peripherals like
iomega drives and the like. Would those work for power sources?
Or should I use old computer power supplies? The cameras
are just...

I don't know that Jam will work. I've never used it, but the documentation says it uses jam files instead of make files. It appears from the official site that you would have to compile the code and make the jam file youself...no fun. It also seems that jam is missing its configuration file - it's different from running ./configure for your game, that's totally separate - dunno why. (Tried ...

I recieved a free, working TV the other day. The only problem with it was the pin from an RCA video cable had broken off inside the socket. I didn't want to spend money on an RF modulator for my DVD Player, so I figured out a pretty solid way of getting the pin out.
1.) Find a needle
2.) On a hard surface, bend the very tip of the needle slightly so that it forms a tiny barb.
3.) heat ...

The two giving you grief may be cheap knock-offs that are compatible with Windows but not your camera. Is Windows still unable to see the difference when you fill them up full of viable data? I was the unfortunate victim of knock-off memory, and my 8 GB memory card began behaving as you describe. Now only 1.5 GB of it actually functions, and even then there's no knowing whether the files I put...

Would an old phone charger do the job? There is circuitry in place to prevent over-charging of the battery, but I don't know if it's in the charger, the phone, or built into the battery itself. Crack open the wire that goes to the phone, get at the wires and fashion a couple of probes to touch to the contacts of the battery. Maybe fashion a simple docking-slot to hold the wires in place?

You shouldn't need to hack the physical printer. That sort of stuff is generally handled by the printer driver on your computer. Are you on a Windoze box or a real computer :-) ? For the Mac, from Illustrator go to the "Page Setup..." popup box, and under "Paper Size" choose "Manage Custom Sizes...". You should then define your own paper, with an arbitrary length. There "ought" to be ...
