I have had an interest in building a greenhouse like area with flouresent bulbs, automated water, and climate control. For the water i could hook up a hose on a timer to a bit of pvc but what is the best way to get proper climate control. What is the desired composition of a water? I guess the question is how do i get nutrient water and proper vitamins straight to a plant?

I don't run very much. I never was all that good at it. Lately, though, I have found the need to improve that ability, specifically my endurance at speed. I can slowly jog a mile, sure, but haulin'-ass-away-from-an-amgry-man-with-a-knife-sp eeds don't last much longer than thirty yards, if that. I'd like to improve my overall speed if possible, and especially increase the distance that I can cover...

So I inherited this Toshiba laptop with Windows 95 on it. It has a ?86 processor and about 16MB RAM and about 800 MB hard drive. It has a laptop PC card that supplies dial-up access and a floppy drive. It runs on AC power. What are some good ideas to do with this? I am thinking about installing some kind of Linux on it, you know, to beef it up somehow, make every megabyte count. I'm ...

What properties of an environment can be measured with solid state sensors? Specifically, I am thinking of a project requiring a suite of sensors-on-chips that can measure their immediate (dry) environment and pass the data to a control unit. So far, I know of temperature, magnetism, radiation, acceleration and light (a camera chip). Are there any other (reasonably priced) solid state ...

I had an idea for a wallet instructable, In the section of the wallet where you put the notes there are two metal connectors that touch when there are no notes but the connection is broken when a note is inserted, when the circuit is completed (wallet empty) a red led on the outside lights up indicating you need to go to a cash point and get some more money. Do you think this is a good idea ...

I was thinking the other day about how I could make all of the gothy underclassmen even more jealous of me and my accessories, when I came up with the idea of having a giant, ornate key as my keyring. Kinda like in the secret garden, or some other old fantasy type movie/book. I couldn't find any starting points at the craft store, but I was thinking it could probably be made from wood, metal,...

Does anyone here have experience with: -electric vehicles in general, -Prius-style hybrids -deep-cycle batteries -independent rear suspensions -repurposing "free" lithium-ion batteries -The heat output of half a ton of such batteries, and a cooling system that might be up to the job -electric dragsters -building a car from scratch (and I do mean scratch... starting with building the ...

I just started college and have found sleeping with earplugs to be indespensible in a dorm room. I have a radio alarm that is pretty loud. I was thinking of ripping out the speaker and attaching a vibrating motor to it. Then I would mount the vibrating motor to my bed post or something, and hopefully it would be annoying enough to wake me up. Does the alarm send enough power to the speaker to ...
