can anything be done to make the newer ones run like the older ones did. so many people complain about the carter/edelbrock carbs. I still think more could be done with mine but not with the knowledge that I have.

.076" P & .067" S. The P may be a little lean but you need to go there (or start there) and richen progressively until it is just rich enough to run well at the light load where the idle circuit is in play.

I think if you take things one step at a time you will be able to tune your carburetor. Do some research, start with idle circuit then main etc. One thing at a time so you can reverse if the change does not work well. Do some reading first as good information has been posted in the past.

Right its all mounted up, The length of the bung and heatsink does mean its just the tip of the probe into the downpipe, as in just the domed part. Will this still suffice? It will be over 1,000F at the location in your pics. Good luck.

Lean at w.o.t. check log
Published (2009-12-21 22:56:00)
Hey guys the only part of the log that is full throttle is from 13 sec. to 22 sec. After 22 sec. I was just coasting back down to the speed limit. With my original 74/84 jetting and .o55 pvcr, my cruise afr at 3000 was 12.5-13:1, w.o.t. was avg. 14.0. I am trying to get my cruise afr leaned out, then I will try to get my w.o.t. afr richened up. I recently hooked up my vac. advance to man. vac. and slightly tweaked my base timing (took out...

This is exactly what I use mine for, but I sent it back for repair and was hoping it was not removed... I have not had a chance to try it, but before the firmware and possibly this forum are gone (hopefully not, but with the buyout who knows), I wanted to make sure I had the old version that I need to use this. Spent a lot of time building a dist tester around this thing for it ...

Behind turbine should be plenty cooler unless WG remains full open at WOT for extended periods. The between 9 and 3 O-clock suggestion is considering the pipe is horizontal. What happens is condensed water vapor gets blasted on hot sensor hurting it, and there is less chance of water hitting a sensor at the top of the pipe. Since your turbine outlet pipe is vertical the 9 - 3 O-clock ...

70/84 is a big split in the jetting. I think your primary main jet is too small, its like you have chased the cruise AFR by leaning the main jet. The logs shows jumpy AFR and RPM lines indicating inconsistent combustion. The engine is probably running lean at the front cylinders and rich at the back ones. Put the carby back to stock Holley spec in the mains and get the cruise AFR you want by ...

Make sure your transfer slot are not over exposed at idle. Pull the carb off and turn it over. Most likely they are overexposed, and why your mixture screws would not lean it enough. You've now made your transition circuit too lean at part throttle as the IAB's and IFR feed the transition circuit as well. Shoot for around .020 of t-slot exposed. If your idle speed is too low, try a little more ...

Hi there, What's the problem? Does it hesitate or die or run rough or anything like that? If it's just the gauge telling you your running at 16:1 then there's no problem under light acceleration or even part-throttle heavy acceleration. It may feel a tag sluggish but you'll save on fuel while cruising around. Lean of stoich is usually cooler than rich of stoich. If you're wanting more power/...

I’d try a #70 MJ and a white #218 pump cam. That size venturi should run reasonably well (shouldn’t turn completely stupid) until you get below a #68 MJ. With smaller MJ's the PV # may have to go up to avoid a mid-throttle sag. It depends on the valve timing and distributor setup, the vacuum and mechanical advance calibrations. What intake manifold? Do you have the original Ford 2 bbl....
