I plan on getting a new gaming laptop for college (alienware m17 maybe) and am wondering what you can upgrade on 'em to save money. I hear alienware is very good with letting you upgrade their laptops and may even cover it under their warranty (not sure about the last statement though). I was hoping to upgrade the cpu from the stock p8400 to a q9100 ($564 from ebay vs. $850 from alienware) or a ...

I have to frequently transfer a large number of large files from other peoples computers and transfer them to my own. Frequently, I do this under a severe time crunch. I'd like to know what the fastest combination for large file transfer is. Is it a particular brand of USB stick, or is it a SDHD card in a USB adapter, or is it a different tech altogether? I'm looking for something with ...

I'm looking to buy a laptop almost exclusively for gaming while traveling or away from home. Can someone make some recommendations for something for under $2000? I have seen reviews on the GAteway P-7811fx (appears to be discontinued) , the Dell XPS M1730 and the Alienware M15x, and they all look pretty good on paper. Anyone have any ideas on these or others that would fit the bill?

Anyone have a suggestion for a reliable alternative to purchasing replacement batteries from Dell? My wife has an e1505 and they want to charge $139 bucks for a replacement 6cell that everyone has dogged on their site with 1.5 star reviews because it dies in 14 months. I started to google 'dell replacement batteries' and it looks like everyone under the sun sells them, so I'm ...

Anyone that done this and have any opinions to share? Do you keep your cellphone on you the whole time when you're at home (with landlines is natural to have maybe 3 or 4 phones in the house)? How about soliciting calls?

I'm running a Think Pad T61, and find that power state changes will also change the state of a high pitched annoying noise. It seems like this annoying noise likes to happen in full power mode, and stops in power saving mode. Any thoughts on how to cut it out? Also, it's not the fan. No seriously, it's not the fan.

Before I even turned the Mini 9 on for the first time, I'd upgraded the RAM to 2gb. Very simple to do. If I had the money for the 64gb SSD, I'd have one of those installed by now as well. As for gaming, with the help of an external hard drive for storage I have gotten World of Warcraft to not only install, but run. It's a bit choppy running through the gathering areas of major cities, but ...

I need some help understanding mobile processor models. I've gone to Intel's site, I've searched high and low for comparison charts and have been pretty much unsuccessful. I know that there are T2xxx T5xxx T7xxx and I think T9xxx do these also signify technology age (as in Pentium4 vs Pentium D vs Core 2 Duo. What's what? Is there something I should stay away from (ie battery ...
