home server - laptop or tower?

It depends on how much power use matters to you. If it matters a lot, then I'd recommend using a nettop for a new server. If it's not as important, using a desktop has the advantage of upgradeability. A server has no need to have the latest and greatest case, so when your current server is as bad as your laptop, you can just drop in a new mobo, add a hard drive and be done. much more cost-effective then having to buy a whole new...

The point of 3 cores is better ocing and games don't use more than 2 cores. Plus the phenom architecture is better than the athalon.

yep but i may end up buying a screen now as well for purposes of enjoyment and that "new" feeling. thought up a way to get my dad to chip in £400 or so out of what will end up costing me @~950 in total if im going screen+5850 as well. ^^ if i decide against that i will do the 4850 option.

Yeah I noticed that (i normally look at the 1900x1200) ... I'll take a peak at that link, but it appears supply is going to be the problem. newegg.ca, tigerdirect.ca, ncix.com all are low on 5850 options... My PC is in a shipping container somewhere right now so not much to worry about at the moment. Hopefully as I wait .. more options will come into stock in the next 30 days.

Just shut it down and start over. Sorry. Sometimes it's good to see someone else get bit by the "Damn I'm Good and Can Do No Wrong" syndrome once in a while.

No need to buy a logo. Any cheap adapter will suffice . Typically more external antenna's are better.

the 5770 probably uses about the same power as your 4830 does, maybe a tad less.
performance wise the i5 750 kills the P2 X3. power wise the i5 uses about half a watt more than the P2 X3 720. so really no difference
most of the time when your looking at two similar CPUs (ex. the X3 710 and X3 720) they usually have the same core so a 710 running at 3.5 will use about the same power ...

for the most part, L3 cache is the only difference between Athlon II and Phenom II processors. What games in particular are you looking to play?

All of the other versions are 'full' versions ... the starter version is really the only crippled one.
Which one you buy depends on what you want to do with your new netbook.

The new chips use a different voltage, so you're probably out of luck as far as this goes.
They'd be quite expensive, hard to find and difficult to swap out ... assuming that Toshiba hasn't soldered the chip to the board.
Either way, you'll void your warranty (if there is one left ... if not ... give'er!)
Generally speaking, RAM and drives are the only upgraded parts of a ...

I'm torn between these two right now. I'll probably end up going with the ASUS.
$229.99 ASUS VW246H 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor - 1080p, 1920x1080, 20000:1 Dynamic, 2ms, 16:9, VGA, DVI, HDMI, Black
$329.99 Samsung T260HD Touch of Color 26" Widescreen LCD Monitor - 1080p, 1920x1200, WUXGA, 1000:1, 5ms, HDMI
The ASUS VW266H looks good too!

the bad parts about that bundle are pretty much everything except the CPU
the case is just average, the PSU is bad, the mobo is an outdated socket that uses outdated ram.
I'll look for a combo but If I can't find one I can just post a cheap build for you
