I suggested the codecs as I was under the impression that Paul wanted to use the default Windows Media Player 12, and not have to use WMP Classic. Perhaps, I misunderstood him. I've been using sharks codecs because it enables me to play all the media file types found on my PC through WMP12. Without those codecs, I ended up having to use an external player.

I would recommend you run a SUPERAntiSpyware Complete System Scan. I would link you directly to their site, but it's currently being DDoS'd . Post the logfile here when it's finished.

Pull the plug on the pc and then short the cmos, then put the shorting plug back in the run position, plug only one stick of ram in and see if it posts, if it does, keep adding ram one stick at a time. Each time you add a stick pull the plug on the pc or you will kill the ram. Nasty

No, no reason. I just asked because I wanted to make sure I didn't have any because I know the anti-spyware/virus/malware can give good readings when they're being fooled.

Which version of IE are you running? My initial thought is start disabling add-ons until it goes away and then deal with that offending app.

Apologies for self-bump... 30 hours and 12 full memtest86+ passes later, zero errors. Does this rule out the memory?

No signal getting to my monitor

Actually, your videocard is only one possible problem. Another possibility is that one of your memory sticks (which I assume are configured to run in dual-channel memory mode) might have started to go defective on you. Try booting your system with only one stick of memory and see if that resolves your issue with no signal to the monitor. If it does, proceed to run MemTest86+ on the one stick of memory and see if it flags any errors. Repeat...

Have you tried running a hard drive diagnostic?
As for the RAM, you are better off running Memtest86+ than Prime95. I doubt it is a CPU problem.
One of the first things I would suspect is the hard drive. I know you mentioned you upgraded the hard drive, but did you have the same problem with the previous drive?

I have an old Sony VAIO sitting in my closet, which has serious issues with it's Windows install. The PC did not come with a recovery disk, but there is a sticker on the back with what appears to be an OEM product key. Can I use this key with any old Windows XP install disc to give the PC a fresh start?

So this morning I leave to go to class. I shut off my computer and go. When I get back 2 hours later, my computer was still on, but with no signal. All the fans were on but there was nothing going to the monitor. I shut it off and turned it back on. When I turned it on, my internet wouldn't work. I have a wireless adapter and it was telling me that it couldn't see any networks. I restarted the ...

the excess will eventually dry up, and i have never seen a collection of dust on the excess thermal paste before, unless the user doesn't clean their PC much. i would put it across the heatpipes.

Hi,
Have you made sure that the 8 pin, 12Volt motherboard power connector located next to the mouse/keyboard header is firmly attatched?

You have some interesting file locations there.
I need you to scan one of them individually.
Please go Here . Click on the Browse button and locate and upload the following file:
I:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\svchost.exe
Let it scan the file.
Let me know what the results return.
It does appear the computer is infected, just want to make sure before we...

**UPDATE**
I tested the gfx card, the new one, in my PC, and it does work on my PC... Therefore, this is a mobo issue. So, what might be the problem from here? Thanks!
Also, before anyone jumps the gun and blames the PSU. I'm running the same PSU as the new build is... Which is a 750w Corsair PSU

I think I got attacked by that to. Download malwarebytes and run full system scan if you can open it. Use that to delete the virus. It worked for me when my antivirus and everything else failed.

A few questions before I start recommending anything...
1. What is Avast detecting specifically? As in, what file does it say is infected? If provided, what is the name of the file?
2. What do you mean by your denied access to Spybot? Does the program not load? Do you get any errors?

Hi guys,
I just bought ARMA2 from BestBuy, and have finished installing the game. I've enjoyed the game for the most part as the graphics are outstanding. However, there's one thing thwarting me from playing it anymore until I get input from the local community.
My anti-virus doesn't dig what it's doing in the background.

tried disabling it through the desktop background properties?
instead of using a background pic image, it's set itself to an actual webpage for a desktop background? you can disable/remove it in the desktop background list settings.

and just for discussion, I thought windows 7 came with this stuff, so I'm hoping you didn't break things with something else.
