Looking Into a New System

Without more specific information on what you're trying to build, it's hard to give you targetted advice - even a wild guess at your possible budget would be better than nothing. Other things you could tell us for more helpful suggestions would be what you intend to do with the system (gaming, workstation, server, etc), what your intended upgrade cycle should be (how long do you want the PC to last before you have to replace parts to...

I think you better research the ram modules you have and check what is the maximum voltage they can handle. Also remember, that when you overclock ram, that some mobo's push the voltages up on the ram to support the overclocking. So simply put, check what ram you have and do some research on having it overclocked and what voltages does it run stable on - WITHOUT damaging it in the long run with excessive heat from the voltage tweak.

I swapped out the low speed hook ups for the Noctua fans and added another 120MM fan int he 2nd HD bay increasing the case cooling by a lot. Overall the idle temps took a nice drop. Pushed her to 4.3GHz and kept the voltage at 1.34v seems to be running pretty nicely under idle speeds, but am willing to bet under full load temps would hit 70+C.

Well, those things look pretty good, i don't actually have 3.5k laying around, but that was my MAX budget, because everyone kept telling me to tell my budget, i don't want to spend that much, but some top of the line stuff would be nice.

Extra, How much do you want to spend? You throw out a figure then say.. well I don't want to spend that much. Seriously you can't expect us to make a recommendation if that recommendation is beyond reach. Can you afford 1500? I am not trying to be rude and I am glad you came to Icrontic, I am just giving it to you straight. Until you tell us what your spending limit is. This thread is just spinning its wheels. Yes, Windows 7 has no service packs yet. When Vista was first released Nvidia drivers were causing too many BSODs like you have described. I wanted to make sure your are not running such a configuration. I would first eliminate CPU and RAM running Prime95 and Memtest86 , respectively. Next, you might want to check the GPU stability and temperature. I run Furmark and monitor GPU temperature using GPU-Z or Rivatuner. You can try running Furmark...

Throwing a vote in for Lenovo. Build quality is incomparable, and that's always the first thing that degrades for me in my laptops. Not sure on the options under a grand, but let me know if you'd like to go that route - I have an employee purchase program account via a friend that works for IBM. We're allowed to share them.

You should be able to simply increase the motherboard's memory voltage to 1.65v in the BIOS. Most PII boards go to 2.0v.

You should be able to rebuild the raid through your raid commands. If it's raid 1 the good drive will be the active one then say you want to mirror it to the second drive that's gotten out of sync. As long as it's all hardware raid done through a raid controller you should be fine. I can't be more specific then that as I have no experience with that mobo.

I wouldn't recommend dropping much money on a 775 system at this point, so while I hate to recommend an nvidia chipset, this would be the board I'd select in your case as a holdover.
Edit - just noticed newegg is out of stock. You could try and see if you can find a P45 in SLI flavor, but I think most of them are CrossfireX.

Hello,
A hardware fix to the Omnibook 6000 motherboard to get rid of the Bios Password.
IC Chip number U-32 (on top of board which is in between the two white connectors
where the harddrive plugs into) Small square voltage regulator board plugs into the
two white connectors.
If one is good with a soldering iron with a very fine tip you can replace the U-32
chip with the Bios Password ...

Yes, that board supports Crossfire, but the performance you will get on it will not be very good. Crossfire performance is significantly bottlenecked when the secondary adapter has to run at x4 PCIe lanes. An x8/x8 split will do the job a lot better.
***EDIT - AM3 is not in fact backwards compatible, I had my facts mixed up. You'll need an AM2+ motherboard if your roomy wants to use the AM2+ ...

If it's failing even with a freshly-loaded secondary hard drive, that points to a hardware failure.
The most common culprit, and the easiest to test, is memory. Get yourself a copy of memtest86 (it's free!) from here http://www.memtest86.com/ and run it for a while. It checks every sector of your RAM, and any issues with it will show up there generally pretty quickly. It's a standalone ...

If the PC uses Windows XP, you need to download this driver to run HDMI audio properly. If it uses Vista or Windows 7, I'm stumped.
