yikes! Just be sure to let the unit know that you can't make it because of the snowstorms (I know it would be obvious but you know some people are.. dumb) so you're not marked as non compliant or something for missing a treatment.....

No idea what bun means - my gfr is usually about 3 or 4, creatinine we use a different scale, so I call it 800 or 900. I believe my 800 is the same as your 9. Been on PD for over a year and a half - no o ne cares about my creatinine. Ask for a copy of you blood test results so you can check your pot/phos

Hanify, Here's the good oil on BUN - "The blood urea nitrogen (BUN) test is a measure of the amount of nitrogen in the blood in the form of urea, and a measurement of renal function. Urea is a substance secreted by the liver, and removed from the blood by the kidneys. BUN is reported as mg/dL in the United States. Elsewhere, the concentration of urea is reported as mmol/L. To convert from mg/dL of blood urea nitrogen to...

Why for god's sake? I'd listen to people tell me I look great all day long. I mean just because you have the kidney problems doesn't mean that other's don't have good eyesight.

I have no clue what my creatine/Bun/GFR is. I just know my phosphorus and potassium is. Last time I checked my creatine is around 9, I think. That was a couple months ago.

Jenna had the bladder enlargement surgery 4 years ago. It was 10 days in the hospital, and no food for 4. They used bowel material to augment the bladder, but nowadays they often grow the new bladder tissue from a patient's own cells. How will they be doing yours? Jenna's has worked great, and once her bladder was larger and would no longer damage a new kidney, she was qualified for transplant. Hope all works out for you.

Once you start dialysis, which is life support, the numbers you clung on to with dear life everytime you went to see your nephrologist go out the window. You don't care what your creatinine is anymore or your BUN or your GFR. You jumped off the bridge to dialysis. Now you care about potassium and phosphorus and fluid. When you get a transplant you care about creatinine again. Make sense?

Interesting. There are blood oranges--bright red inside. But you don't find them here often. Lots of them in Greece! I wonder if this is a new hybrid orange? Let us know what you find out.

Goofy, Ok you said other than a pd belt. I cut old stretchy sun tops up, most cotton sun tops have a ribbed bottom and can be quite stretchy so I cut the tops off till I have about 8 inches of material, machine where I have cut, mybe machine the sides in a bit and away you go. Think bandanna, I have made them in all different colors, they work.

i was naughty, i used those water proof dressings and had very quick showers. But, obviously don't do it cause it is dangerous. Once you've been on pd for a while you can get a bit blase about things and that was my 2nd catheter.

Kristi I've found that most people don't give a damn. I have, maybe, six people who care, and most of them don't really understand. The only support that I rely on is that supplied by the folks here on IHD. I was also fighting with the cows at the dialysis unit yesterday. They keep wanting to take fluid off me, despite my telling them I'm peeing at 3500mls+ and the neph said as recently as last...

We have a great book at school called... It could always be Worse. It's about a man who goes to his Rabbi complaining about how bad things are. The Rabbi advises the man to bring his mother-in-law to live with them, then as the complaining continues, he tell the man to bring the chickens inside, then the goats and ducks and cows. Finally the man can't take it any more and the Rabbi tell the ...

Thinking of you, KS... What a horrible run of luck you're having... I'd imagine that your BP meds would show up in your bloods... If that B with an itch is SO sure that you're not taking them, let her arrange a Toxicology Screen with your next lot of blood work... My cardiologist was able to tell me that he knew I was taking my two BP meds, and my Beta Blocker... He could see it in my blood!......
