Clay Bar Care
Published (2009-11-29 09:30:00)
Should be added that clay bar can help with all kinds of paint surface issues. I was unfortunate enough to come around a corner only to see a street center-line painter coming the other way.....and it was a windy day......saw him too late to get clear of his overspray. The result was a bazillion little yellow center-line paint "dots" on the front and left side of the GT. Because center-line paint is very thick, I was able to...

Clay Bar Care
Published (2009-11-29 14:07:00)
No way a clay bar should harm clearcoat. Use whatever lubricant the maker of the bar recommends. I would not simply use soapy water. My experience with clay bars is that they are awesome on silver and other lighter colors, but not really worth the effort on darker colors. On darker colors, a good cleaning polish followed by a sealant is plenty.

Brake Pads
Published (2009-11-25 15:46:00)
You can get EBC brake pads for the new GT. The rear pads are FA438HH, the front left pads are FA335HH, and the front right pads are FA441HH. The bad news is that while these pads do have the provision to fit a new sensor wire, EBC doesn't make replacement wires (even though they do list part numbers for the wires). I went all the way up to the EBC factory in the UK to get that answer. I ended up reusing a sensor wire from an old worn pair...

I too have an '06 KGT. My FD also failed at 36K...about 2 months ago.
Some points for you to consider re your FD:
1) A&S BMW (California) wanted to charge me $1400+ to replace the FD. They are not known for their low prices. Your dealer is ripping you off.
2) My bike was 3 months out of warranty. After a week of I was able to convince A&S to pick up half the cost and ...

Yes it works but ..If you have kept your bike clean and waxed and its not in anyway weathered than you really don't need to do the whole thing...the last time i did mine I washed the panels with dish soap and used thin cotton gloves the ones that you would use in a photo lab and run your fingers over the plastic until you felt anything out of the ordinary and used the clay on that one spot......

Alex,
Bad idea. This guy is re-selling a bootleg old manual. The current version is 2.6 Gbytes, not 630 Mbytes.
He is violating copyright by selling someone else's intellectual property. He is also violating the law in the US and most other countries.

My K1300GT is coming up on 6000 miles and am dreading taking it to the stealer. I haven't asked for a price yet as I'd like to know what some of the rest of you have paid for negotiating purposes (or to take it somewhere else for service).

How can you get the oil out of the engine sump in a slant-4 motor? You cannot! You need to unscrew the drain plug... there is no other way.
The best you can hope for is to suck it out of the oil tank, but since it already comes with a drain hose, it is already a simple no-mess job to drain it.

Rick,
Interesting that an owner's "hunch" fixes an aggravating problem compared with an " authorized" dealer's computer which shows "no-faults"!
Otherwise, glad this is behind you. And since it is, have to confess if these bikes are "re-tuned" to show flat-out of fuel when the count-down reaches zero with no "reserve", then it's almost mandatory to have a low fuel warning system ...
