To Buy This Subie Or Not To Buy...
Published (2009-12-19 10:08:00)
I would never buy this car. Here is why. Your "worst case scenario" may turn out to be the best case. What if you replace that shortblock, and then find out the heads are fried and it needs a new turbo. Then you replace that, get it going, and discover there's no first gear in the tranny. So you rebuild the tranny, get it out on the freeway and discover it pulls really bad to one side, the AC doesn't work, and damn...

I am willing to wager that a power steering line touched the turbo. PS fluid is extremely flammable. These could be the "wires" that the dealership referenced but I highly doubt it. I have seen this happen before and have had it happen to me personally. This is why I now always recommend you run a heatshield or blanket no matter what

i have an 05 with 102000 and the only things ive had problems with aside from normal maintenance is i had some trans work done under warrenty for a 4th gear grind, and just recently i found my turbo inlet pipe torn open at the turbo. i ordered a perrin last night. other than that, this car has been AMAZING! treat it good, and it will, in return, treat you as well.

I have read in several places that you cannot buy the strainer separate. You would have to buy a new OEM fuel pump in order to get the strainer. At least this is my understanding.

To Buy This Subie Or Not To Buy This Subie, That Is The Question! Hey guys, I'm pretty sure most of you don't know me so let me first start off by saying hiya! I'm located in Chicago, IL which atm is covered in ice and freezing temperatures... Either way I had managed to stumble across this subie for sale and I was wondering what you guys think of the price and the condition!...

overboost and fuel cut... you can get the code read at any auto parts store but to help you understand I'll give you the short version. Your internal wastegate was all the way open but exhaust gasses were flowing at a higher rate than the gate can vent them so the turbo spins faster than its supposed to and builds more pressure than it should. Your car responds by displaying an error code in ...

STi Front lip? 500-600 Another set of brembo rotors all around 1200? Or if spt is what u r looking to get, I have seen and intake, cat back, and pink springs. That will probably take care of all your subaru bucks. I have also heard of a few online vendors (subaru dealerships) that actually sell some performance parts. I am sure someone will chime in about these places....I think ...

I would go a different color. That would be cool. If it were me I would choose a color not to far off the original though. That way it won't clash too bad with the engine bay, which I think looks tacky. I'm assuming for 5.5 he's not gonna do absolutely everything. So yeah some kind of grey/silver type color, maybe with a pearl in it, would be nice.

i agree, we all essentially drive the same car. Personally I wish I could get an 08+ STI. The hatch look has really grown on me. Granted I love my GD, and plan on keeping it a long time. This dilemma sounds alot like fellow maintainers for the AF as specialists (me) and crew chiefs. Its a love/hate situation

I believe Subaru recommends running the spray until it's empty because the tank and lines can and will freeze. The pump will make a loud noise when it runs out. It's kind of annoying to see the yellow I/C spray light on the dash everyday, but oh well. I would not put anything in it besides pure water - no salt or antifreeze to keep it from freezing, as that would contaminate the system as well ...

I only thought there was the in tank filter as well. I've never seen anything about a fuel filter in the engine bay. The Subaru I talked to recommended replacing the fuel filter every 70,000 miles; get an OEM one vs the filter that comes with Walbros.
