If the charge is a standard rate then BT or the ISP should have made you aware of it before any work took place, though it would be very hard to prove that they did not inform you (don't be surprised if BT and the ISP start playing "
pass the buck" for blame between each other). It's also not clear from the post whether the BT visit fixed the problem? BT's charges have been the subject of much ...

You're not allowed to use Outlook cos it's not in their T&Cs??
So now your ISP wants to tell you what programs you can use!
F*ck that! It's so pathetic it's actually funny!

ISPreview covers Internet Access Providers, so you won't find much about
web hosts here. Our sister site has a few more details but it never really took off like this one:

I would suggest moving host and if you need any help with that then let us know, there are a lot of experienced people on here.

[Unfortunately AOL UK chose to ignore this email… and a second… and two attempts to contact them via their Online Help Area. Consequently I had no option but to contact them via their
premium rate phone line.
This is AOL UKs Cunning Ploy No. 2. Totally ignore all attempts by customers to make contact in writing to resolve problems of AOL UKs making, force them to use premium rate numbers ...

PlusNet/Madasafish are both part of BT so if you continue to have problems then you can at least get the phone service resolved by having a moan to BT directly about it, I hope. Best thing you can do in the short term is to keep pestering them, don't be rude, just keep the pressure on.
If problems continue then take a look at our complaints section:

Firstly, welcome to
the "wonderful" world of Mobile Broadband. What you have experienced with speed is actually quite normal and we've covered this a lot on ISPreview over the past two years, check out our own experiences with Vodafone:

Please also review their Mobile Broadband service here as we need more feedback:

Can you borrow a friends modem or router to check it is not a fault with the freebie Thompson one??
I have had several friends who have ditched the Thompson routers due to various glitches.
A decent router can be bought for under £40, depending on the need for "N" wireless.

It might be worth running a BT speedtest and posting the results of what your IP profile etc is

First, is it true that they have undercharged you?
If so.. you should probably ask them about some kind of payment plan (most companies will let you pay more per month over 1 year or so.. to cover the cost; rather than paying it all at once).
Secondly.. try and ask them to back down a bit on what you owe, after all.. it is their mistake
