Unfair BT engineer charge

Very interesting read, but also very worrying, that there seems to be very little that is being done to bring the wrongdoers to book.

Well if you get no satisfaction they do have a complaints prcedure according to the FAQ. Do Unicom have a Complaint Handling and Dispute Resolution Code of Practice? Yes. Is it Unicom or Unicon? Having been gulible enough to fall for the sales patter and then find that instead of 17% cheaper than my previous provider Unicom works out 25% more a total difference of 42% between the sales promise and reality I am mad with myself. In trying seek help from unicom I found: 1. Contracts dept rude, obstructive and even amused by my compliant 2. Trying to make a complaint in any meangingful way was more difficult than...

Unfair BT engineer charge
Published (2009-12-03 12:59:00)
I had an acceptable adsl24/enta.net broadband service until 13 August and 21CN introduction, after which I lost it all. Many calls (all noted) to enta.net resulted in no help whatsoever, beyond "try reconnecting later". after 5 days it was established by a tech-savvy friend that router was up to the new spec, but he had to download some new settings on his iphone, after which connection re-established. at no stage did...

Unfair BT engineer charge - Page...
Published (2009-12-04 11:30:00)
Openreach engineer has no real say whether visit is chargeable or not, depends on the ISP if it decides to onpass any charge to customer. I would hazard guess that in 99% of cases the engineer would say no charge, saves getting an earfull of abuse. Since the OP has no contract with BT they probably won't talk to him anyway. Standard callout is £85 plus minimum 1 hour at £55 p/h (+VAT) chargeable if the fault is found not to be with any...

So they charged £150 because some router settings needed changing? Wow I'm really doing the wrong thing here, just imagine how much money we could all make if we setup a business to operate in the same.. oh now I see . Do you have any written evidence from the engineer that he said no charge would be made? If not then it's going to be a tough ride because how do you prove the charge is unfair? It might be worth taking the matter up...

If the charge is a standard rate then BT or the ISP should have made you aware of it before any work took place, though it would be very hard to prove that they did not inform you (don't be surprised if BT and the ISP start playing "pass the buck" for blame between each other). It's also not clear from the post whether the BT visit fixed the problem? BT's charges have been the subject of much ...

You're not allowed to use Outlook cos it's not in their T&Cs?? So now your ISP wants to tell you what programs you can use! F*ck that! It's so pathetic it's actually funny!

ISPreview covers Internet Access Providers, so you won't find much about web hosts here. Our sister site has a few more details but it never really took off like this one: http://www.host-review.co.uk I would suggest moving host and if you need any help with that then let us know, there are a lot of experienced people on here.

[Unfortunately AOL UK chose to ignore this email… and a second… and two attempts to contact them via their Online Help Area. Consequently I had no option but to contact them via their premium rate phone line. This is AOL UK’s Cunning Ploy No. 2. Totally ignore all attempts by customers to make contact in writing to resolve problems of AOL UK’s making, force them to use premium rate numbers ...

PlusNet/Madasafish are both part of BT so if you continue to have problems then you can at least get the phone service resolved by having a moan to BT directly about it, I hope. Best thing you can do in the short term is to keep pestering them, don't be rude, just keep the pressure on. If problems continue then take a look at our complaints section: http://www.ispreview.co.uk/new/complain...

Can you borrow a friends modem or router to check it is not a fault with the freebie Thompson one?? I have had several friends who have ditched the Thompson routers due to various glitches. A decent router can be bought for under £40, depending on the need for "N" wireless.

First, is it true that they have undercharged you? If so.. you should probably ask them about some kind of payment plan (most companies will let you pay more per month over 1 year or so.. to cover the cost; rather than paying it all at once). Secondly.. try and ask them to back down a bit on what you owe, after all.. it is their mistake Tom - www.mouselike.org
