At 15 she may sense that enjoying her remaining time is more important than attempting to extend it by means she does not enjoy.
That is a very human-like reaction, too, that I have seen in people dying of respiratory ailments who'd rather enjoy the comfort of not craving nicotine over living longer, and it is a decision they are fully aware of.
