Make sure you evaluate the thinner distros (damn small linux might be too much so, but it's of that class) if you find that the full blown ones are too much for the hardware. If the 16V/5A doesn't work, I would simply go to fleabay and look for an adapter sold to work with your particular model of Toughbook. Cheap accessory sellers are a dime a dozen there so you should be able to find an adapter for relatively cheap. And I'd guess you know this but remember to make sure that the polarity on the adapter is the same as on the laptop! Additionally, I'd also look at...
