You know what bugs me? That I didn't expect the need to read the technological brief on Ati's Eyefinity in order to be informed what works and how. These details should've been displayed (ha!) in big, bright, blinking pink letters, not lost in various PDF files and read-the-fine-print pointers. If that would've been the case the whole Eyefinity thing would've either 1) die a quick death...

Server Silencing

Quote from: Grumpy on November 25, 2009, 09:48:18 am You might try a simple voltage divider on each fan. Or some simple 1amp 100v rectifiers in series with the + supply to the fan. Each one drops about .7 volts reducing the fan speed (works great on an xbox 360 I had to mod). If you drop it too far though your PS will overheat.

Quote from: Daydream on November 22, 2009, 12:31:16 am Edit: there may be something that doesn't add up here. I can do an expanded display (2 monitors) with the DisplayPort connection (using the DVI adaptor). That shouldn't have worked at all, isn't it? Nope. That works. The card has two of these hardware timers, and will allocate them to the first two monitors that are connected, basically....

Server Silencing

how much of the noise is vibration transfer from the server to the table? Also, other than the CPU fan(s), look at tearing out ALL of the 12v fans in favor of externally powered 120 vac fans. You can get some high-volume quiet airflows from QUALITY 4" and 5" muffin fans that are 1" thick (or less). By pulling the fans off your server power supply, you will be saving around 10 watts per fan. You...

Always funny when it's somebody else Traced problem down to my Netcomm USB print server... the radio seems to reboot when it receives a UDP broadcast packet from it! Have notified distributer and they are trying to get a firmware update done to fix it. Anyway, with the print server off I have it working, streaming...

servers will radiate heat as well as dump heat into an airstream. I'll bet that if you wrap your server in some kind of blanket you will also have to increase the airflow. As recommended before, you need to buy a good, sealed, soundproof rack and exhaust the air outside.

I just don't like all the bezel interference. We're back to square one. Monitors/projectors were so great because they removed any edge distortion from rounded glass on CRTs and this is right back there. I'm waiting for this many pixels on a single set or projector. Of course remember that you have to sit quite closely to see all of the pixels--IF you have excellent vision.

Hi Richard, I too was pondering this for some time but as they both have laptops I decided to just use those over another HW Device. Till the bugs with Library Server gets sorted out, I just put my main MC Library on a network share and have their copy of MC just use this library. Thanks Nathan

Hi, I've just had the same problems with my MP101, and found this article on how to update to a custom version of the firmware that fixes these issues with Vista/Windows 7. http://shazwanazizan.blogspot.com/2009/02/giving-b ack-to-society-netgear-mp101.html Following the instructions I upgraded and it works a treat. Unfortunately now though I can't get the unit to work with the JR ...

Quote from: JimH on July 23, 2009, 07:00:22 am In MS or JR, the green button starts MC. In JRMC, it also starts Theater View and toggles between three views of Theater View (root, current, and playing now). It's incredibly useful for my wife. "If you're lost, dear, just hit the green button once or twice." This almost always works, and she now remembers it. Is the button on the...

I went for one of the Shuttle Form Factor Barebones as they are quite, the same height as my Reciever (good for side by side but not very wide so no good for stacking), it's also black and does not have a lot of "bling". If I was doing it again, I'd get one sans Video (eg SX58H7), add a Fanless ATI 4550 HDMI card, Win7/Vista, a 2.5" Laptop Sata HDD, Sweet Spot CPU, 4GB of RAM, the MCE ...

I had that happen once too. After several tries and alot of wracking my brain it turned out the screen resolution had that " Press any key too boot from CD-Rom" was below the bottom edge of the screen where I could not see it. Changing screen resolution and/or moving the screen image upwards before the next reboot fixed the problem. Worth a shot, there's really not much else that could...
