If he hd gotten on the plane with Michael, do you think that one gesture of faith and trust would have been enough for Michael to spare his life? I always wondered that. I'm not telling!

Michael had already given him the "kiss of death" and, besides, Fredo, dim bulb that he was, knew how Michael would react when he'd later learn just HOW deep Fredo'd been with Hyman Roth and Roth's operations re: the senators in his pocket (who would later subpoena Michael to testify). On another thread, earlier this year, someone said Kay meant that Anthony had been so familiar with the "button men", they were more like peers or playmates! I think so too, and I wouldn't put it beyond Roth to whack everyone including Rocco, Neri, Fredo, Pentangeli and Tom Hagen. It was already implied that Roth was working on securing New York for the Rizzoto Brothers while the other names mentioned at the Birthday Party in Cuba for Hyman would split up the Casino holdings. Those who admire him, like those who call Tony Montanna a role-model are missing the point completely. You are making the mistake of thinking you are more important than you actually are.

I don't think so. I think it was meant to show how simplistic he was... I got goosebumps when they showed him congratulating Mike for joining the army in the following flashback scene... so innocent.

The bodyguard that Michael Corleone has and that he uses in both Miami and in Havana, Cuba, what is this mans name supposed to be? Was his name ever listed in the screenplay because i cant find it here on the imdb.com credts at all, this is the older man that kills Johnny Ohla with the coat hanger, Francis Ford Coppola refers to him as Michaels new Luca Brasi in the commentary which is odd because Al Neri was supposed to be the next Luca. But...

I'm inclined to think the Rosatto brothers killed Clemenza, backed by that jew in Miami. That's why Pantangeli went to see Michael. After all, Clemenza promised the Rosatto brothers three districts(?) after he died, so why not speed things up a little bit. Then when Pentangeli welched on the deal, it soured things between Michael and Roth, probably prompting someone to shoot bullets into his ...

The discussion about the "plot against the emperor" parallels the plot against Michael. This is Tom's way of saying that Frankie's family will be taken care of. So by Frankie killing himself he's guaranteeing that he will be no more trouble to the Corleone's, he's honorably accepting that he did wrong by Michael and deserved to be "whacked", and that he is sparing Michael the trouble of ...

I also forgot the mention the subsequent shootout after P.'s attempted assassination. Who is shooting at who, and why? It is an incredibly, frustratingly confusing sequence.

I would agree with most of what you say, but I would venture that The Godfather is brilliant, and The Godfather Part Two MORE brilliant.
I would also offer Toy Story/Toy Story II.

No, but I do think Cazale should have at least been nominated, as he was amazing (especially in the scene you referred to).

You could look at that $2 million as Roth's way of paying the Cuban president to have Michael killed.
Michael says the $2M is a "gift" to the president
Michael tells Fredo that he will be assassinated when picked up in a military car to take him back to the hotel after the night's festivities.
Michael held off on giving Roth the money since he was going to assassinate Roth. That $2M ...

Mrs. Roth was played by Fay Spain who was only about 10 years younger than Lee Strasberg who played Roth. Spain was smoking hot when she was young. So it's not so unbelieveable that she was his first trophy wife. At Roth's age and poor health, a tuna fish sandwich is much easier to get down than a pastrami on rye.

Odd and mysterious which is all we need to know. The script on Jgeoff.com for the GF2 has him listed as "MICHAEL'S BODYGUARD" same as IMDB
He is apparently the man with no name.
I'm not telling!

This is exactly what is so brilliant about The Godfather (well, at least the first one). Don Vito Corleone is presented as a very admirable character. Since the world you see in the film is sealed, you don't really think about how the Don is a ruthless murderer.
Part 2 is different though. It's a film about how power corrupts.
Both films are timeless though.
