Another nail in the molestation coffin - you are correct, NONE of Kinderman's internal monologues in the novel consider this zany theory, and Kinderman certainly does not broach it in the film.

>It shouldn't really be a matter of belief if this kind of thing could happen. > It should be a matter of evidence. Actually belief matters quite a bit because it determines interpretation. A lot of mental/brain disorders used to be interpreted as demonic possession including epelepsy, huntingtons chorea, and schizophrenia. The interpretation of the disorder as possession depended entirely on belief. You are right that...

There's not too many horror films that excite me anymore, but coming from the Scorcese of English cinema Shane Meadows, this should be amazing! “It’s based on a book of the same name, based on the life of a guy who, by getting involved with ouija boards and the occult by trying to disprove it, trying to take the piss out of it, got possessed, had to be exorcised, and later became an exorcist himself. The guy it happened...

yes, I've heard about that one, but the film makers reified it, making the child actually possessed rather than the more likely explanation that the kid was having psychiatric problems. The kid was having psychiatric problems but there was more to it than that. Why not just read about the real exorcism for yourself and then see if you feel the same way about it? I've never been able to make any sense out of revelations and it reads...

I think TVYNS is better, except for the end which subtracts a lot of points. The end where he's looking down the stairs is a lot better. Protest the Top 250, vote this a 10! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0227672/

When I watched the original Omen a couple of years ago, I also watched the DVD extras, and if I recall correctly, the writer had penned this to be specifically a Christian horror film (himself being both born-again and a hippie, which allowed him a little outside-the-box thinking). You are right - we Catholics are not as interested in eschatology (study of end times) as some of our ...

The idea for the movie came from a real exorcism that occurred in Missouri, 1949. Father Halloran was the last living Jesuit priest who assisted in that exorcism. William Blattyx92;s premise was simply that we have entered the modern age perhaps having left a few questions unanswered.

I'm not sure I agree..even if Regan were simply just mentally ill, the way she turns from a sweet little girl into a foul mouthed, murderous thing would be tragic and terrifying. It's the sense of helplessness that makes this movie horrifying. IMO, you don't have to be Christian to be frightened by this film.

No explanation is given, although it is implied that Regan may have gotten his attention and he went up to check on her. Chris was out of the house at the time, Sharon had to go out to get Regan a prescription. Burke had dropped by to visit and Sharon asked him to watch Regan while she went to the pharmacy. While Sharon was out, Regan/the demon broke Burke's neck and pushed him out the window. ...

Merrin looked good hatted, but recall he wears two hats, one for the archeological dig and a black hat for his priestly black clothing. I odn't know what his dig hat is called, but his priestly hat was common back in the day when priests -like most American males - customarily wore hats.

I'll post some off the top of my head. These aren't in any particular order, just what I first thought of. 1) Halloween - When Laurie goes to investigate the Wallace house across the street, and as shes walking into the bedroom, Michael's face slowly fades in from the darkness behind her. 2) Halloween 2 - When Laurie is running from Michael through the hospital hallway, while being drugged ...

I would guess it's the second alternative - that the demon saw an opportunity to attack Merrin by possessing Regan. Clearly the demon wanted to settle a score with Merrin, since the demon lost to Merrin's previoius African exorcism some twelve years before. Of course, the purposiveness of Regan's possession does not rule out other, random possessions - as Merrin says, the demon in ANY case ...
