Rourke should have won because his acting was natural, brilliant and believable. He was able to potray his own personal demons in the character Randy the Ram. Penn out acts Rourke in his sleep. I can't believe people were upset that Penn won the Oscar instead of Rourke. I guess it's old news but i only just got to watching Milk and The Wrestler nither film was all that good in my opinion but in terms of acting Penn's performance was a level above Rourke's.
